Just finished booking a room direct through Hilton honors. After booking the room they asked me to stay on the line for $200 off for a new booking through Hilton. Ended up getting transferred to HGV where they were offering a discounted package (roughly $600 for 6day/5night in Hawaii rainbow tower) if I attended a presentation. I said no so they lowered the price to $349.

Has Hilton been doing this for awhile or is this a new thing? Seems like it isn’t in Hilton’s best interest to do this since they aren’t HGV and they risk making their customers mad if they attend a bad presentation.

I have heard of a potential buyout so is Hilton testing this to see if it is successful and a good reason to buy HGV?

I get transferred frequently to HGV offers after making a reservation by phone - has been for years now. $349 for 5 nights in Hawaii is nice. Best offer I got was $500 for 3 nights in Vegas AND a 4-night Royal Caribbean cruise for 2. Made a nice anniversary trip for me and the MRS

No, it isn’t new just sounds like you have been lucky enough in the past.

I guess we will have to view this differently. I don't find not being offered good deals as being lucky. $349 for 5 nights in Hawaii (and it may well include a car) is a great deal. And attending a short (one can easily make them short) presentation may well be worth it to some. It is very easy to say no, but I can't see how being given fewer choices is better than being offered more, regardless of whether one wants to accept the offer.

Cheers.

I first purchased HGV from taking one of these offers back in 2001 so its been in effect for many years, it probably relates to the partnership agreement between Hilton/HGV. Back then it was 5 nights in a Lagoon tower studio for $599.

HGV used to collect referral lists from owners and mail the same offer out, I referred a friend and received a $100 credit.

You got a great offer at $349, that was always the cost for Vegas/Orlando, never heard of Hawaii being that low.

Its quite possible the agreement will end if HGV is sold, and these types of offers will go away.
