So with the impending Cat 4 hurricane and our check in date for Sat we have decided to not head into the teeth of this monster.. Is there any recourse with RCI??

We did not get the "trading power" protection deal or trip insurance, like normal. :)

I am guess NOT but wondering if any one might had tried in the past and what the results might have been.

It never hurts to call and ask about your options. You can't lose any more than you have lost already since as you said, you took the risk with no insurance ot trading power protection.

You may have to "pretend", as if you are going and hope that the reservations are canceled under a evacuation order...just thinking, no experience.

We had a reservation in Cape Canaveral HICV for this weekend. I contacted the resort and they canceled the reservation and gave me back the points so we can go another time .
I was happy to get my points back.
Hope you can get a credit to stay another time.
Good Luck!

OOKK,, called RCI finally got through and talked with VC person.. asked about the florida state of emergency adn what we could do.. THey canceled the res,, put points used back in account, and posted credit of exchange fees.

We have looked at some last min deal in williamsburg,, had to push Wyndham at Kingsgate out due to fricken "resort fee" of $6 per day.. which is not a lot but I am OPPOSED to resort fees for any purpose.

We found a week 12 oct in Wyndham Patriots' Place, which for some reason does not have the resort fee thus far.. I was able to get the refunded fee applied to the new request which was great..

SO if you have a florida vacation coming up this or the next week call to cancel and get your points and fee back..

thanks to all for the help,, again TUGGERS have saved the day.. Happy Labor day to all. :cheer::thumbup:

You can still buy trading power protection for your week. It costs $104 a little more then if you purchased when you booked. You can do this online. Go to your week, select, on the right upper side there is an icon safeguard your trading power add protection. In the past I have done this until the day before hopefully it is the same still.

That is great, in the past RCI did not do this.

guess they finally got a conscious. It does make for good business and with all the exchange companies out there now it forces them to change for the better is seems.

About a week before Hurricane Irma (2017) hit Marco, Hilton's RCI desk volunteered to cancel a SW Florida booking. They restored my points and gave me a credit for the exchange fee. Then the resort closed & re-cancelled it. Somehow we ended up with 2x the original number of points used.

I would'a 'fessed up, but it was about a year before I realized the error, and I figured it wasn't going to hurt no one.

I have a week in Cocoa Beach starting September 15th, way too late to still be under an evacuation order, I'd guess. If the resort has to cancel the reservation, it will be because they suffered some significant damage, which I don't want. I'll probably end up eating the week since I can't go regardless.

Glad you found Patriots' Place. Williamsburg (Yorktown, Jamestown, Norfolk, Richmond, Charlottesville) has a lot to offer.

Kingsgate's fee mostly pays for the game room (lots of video games), worth it if one has children into video games, otherwise no.

Patriots' Place has no fee because it is extremely sparse on amenities. An outdoor pool is about it. Nice place to stay but don't expect a lot of activities at the resort. We've stayed there a lot and don't care about activities (although we do shoot some pool when we're staying at Governors' Green).

UPDATE ON COCOA BEACH: The Resort on Cocoa Beach's website says they had some minor landscaping damage and will reopen on Friday, September 6. All facilities and amenities will be available.
