I was in high school when they filmed this and we saw the Blues Mobile drive by and being filmed by the Skyway while we were out getting our group school picture done. Jake and Elwood in the car. It was pretty cool.

Too many to mention but I think I’ll have an orange whip while I think about them.

Cheers

I was raised Roman Catholic so the real killer for me was the scene with the "Penguin." The fun starts when she say, " Hello boys." Only gets better.

My favorite quip is just a little bit earlier:

Also my favorite quip. Ranks right there with "Curl Up and Dye" and "No Ma'am. We're musicians." "''How much [for this electric piano?' '2000 bucks and it's yours. You can take it home with you. As a matter of fact, I'll throw in the black keys for free.'"

But for an entire scene, the Country Bunker is great. Would have been even better if the scene included the intro (with your quote) as well as the conclusion where the real "Good Ole Boys" show up.l

Alas, too many other good scenes - like the Soul Food Cafe, with Aretha Franklin:

... and Ray's Music Exchange

They just don't make 'em like this any more.

And sad to say, but they should never have tried a sequel to this......

BTW - has anybody ever counted the number of vehicles destroyed in filming of the movie - police cars and other?

There is something else The Blues Brothers should be given credit to (for) - introducing / reminding of music (blues) that was on the edge of being forgotten. Blues enjoyed a resurgence thanks to this movie.

I don't know but there's lots of space in this mall!

The new Oldsmobiles are in early this year!

And finally, I am sharing this music with the youth of today - every morning at car drop off at school.
No music played from my speaker made AFTER 1986.
That is an education they need!
Which gives me an idea......(see new thread).

Funny - because one of the intents of Landis, Belushi, and Aykroyd was to increase awareness of classic soul music in 1980. Blues Brothers is credited with resurrecting the careers of many of the featured performers post-disco, including Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles.

There was just a show on our local PBS station about the making of “Animal House”. John Belushi was flying back and forth between Oregon and NYC to do Saturday Night Live while this was being made. He used to hang out in a hotel bar in Oregon where a blues musician named Curtis Salgado
was playing. He quickly adopted Salgado’s style, right down to the sun glasses, dark suits and lower lip hair and the rest is history. The first Blues Brothers LP is dedicated to Salgado, he is still alive and in his late sixties.

I believe Dan Akroyd spent “some” evenings in Grossman’s Tavern
379 Spadina Ave . Toronto .

Grossman’s has had regular live blues for many years / still in business
and the music is still going strong .

no cover and the decor is retro / original .
“cigarette smoke stains from the 70’s still lingering on the walls .”

103 cars destroyed in the 1980 film, 104 cars destroyed in Blues Brothers 2000.
Blues Brothers held the record for the most cars smashed until its own sequel deliberately destroyed just one more. For the 1980 film’s main chase, 60 police cars were bought for $400 a piece, and outfitted with reinforced chassis. Most of the cars were unsalvageable by the time filming was over.

Great music in Blues Brothers. Plus it's funny, especially if you grew up Catholic.

Blues Brothers, Tremors and Shawshank Redemption are all movies that later at night one of us will say let's watch a few minutes and we usually end up watching the whole movie.
