I moved close to New Orleans and have never been there before. I booked Avenue Plaza because it's far away from Bourbon Street and right next to the Trolley. Which resort is better for kids based on amenities and location?

I guessed Avenue Plaza because it is away from French Quarter and close to the Garden District, but I'm just using Google Maps to decide. Any input/advice helps because I'm bringing a 4 year old.

We were just there (AP) in June, with three kids, 5, 9, 12. They loved the pool at AP and being so close to the streetcar was a big plus. They all loved it. I found it to be a great neighborhood for kids, in general. It would be good for a four year old.

To be fair, La Belle Maison is only two short blocks from *two* different
streetcar lines - St. Charles and Canal St. The former does stop
directly in front of Avenue Plaza, of course. If you're shying away
from Bourbon & the Quarter, AP is the way to go.

I highly recommend beignets at any Cafe Du Monde location, and the
pecan pie at Camellia Grill is still some of the best in town. And the
trip down to the Mardi Gras World museum is well worth it to see a
few of the great parade floats. Be sure to stroll thru Audubon Park;
City Park is nice too, but a bit farther out.

We generally stay at Quarter House. One side of that first block of Chartres off Canal is the back of a Marriott Hotel parking garage. But, the other side is packed with a variety of places and sometimes characters that might be a little intense for sub-teens.

Unquestionably, the Garden District is more genteel, more civilized, than the French Quarter although the shops and musicians during the day on Royal St. are okay. Curious how you handle the French Quarter with children that age. Or don't you? For sure, there's plenty to do without the French Quarter, or the worst of the French Quarter.

I think if you avoid Bourbon St most of the French Quarter is fine for kids.

The Avenue Plaza has a nice pool and courtyard for the children. It is on the St. Charles Street car line. It is a short distance from Audubon Park and Zoo, Magazine Street, and the World War II Museum. Additionally, if you take the trolley to Canal Street and take the red street car line, it will take you to the NOMA, Sculpture garden, and City Park.

If you're staying at AVenue Plaza - the RTA bus that passes the hotel goes to City Park. We took it to see the carrousel and the story book land park with our two year old.
