When talking about Virginia aviation museums, one must mention https://airandspace.si.edu/udvar-hazy-center, an annex of the National Air and Space Museum on the Mall in Washington, DC.

I am sure @chapjim knows this as we both live in the same DC suburban county. But if you are from out of the area we should point out that the Smithsonian Air and Space museum on the Mall in DC is closer to Virginia Beach than the excellent annex he points out that is in a more Western suburb of DC.

We had a family trip to VA Beach earlier in the summer. While there we made the tough decision to prioritize touring the USS Wisconsin at Nauticus in Norfolk. Happy with our choice but on the next VA Beach trip we will be visiting VASC.

The difference in distance is four miles (according to Google Maps). VA Beach - National Air & Space Museum on Independence Ave.: 208 miles; VA Beach - Udvar-Hazy in Chantilly, VA: 212 miles. The starting point in VA Beach would be irrelevant since the routing would be the same (I-64 to I-95). It's still gonna be four miles difference.
