Albi is a little town in SW France, a little North of Toulouse (home of Airbus). It's known for it's huge Cathedral (const. 1282-1482) and the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, housed in the 14th century Berbie Palace.

Last year, we visited Albi, Cordes (nearby hilltop town), and wineries near Gaillac. We then went to Carcassonne (a 12th century fortified old town) and watched the end of a Tour de France stage.

Well yes, the TDF is more of a parade of team buses, official cars, sponsors and media, using a bike race as an excuse to tear up the countryside.

But I digress. This post is to lament that this year, the TDF just ended a stage in Albi and on Wednesday, will go from Albi thru Cordes, the wine-region near Gaillac, and end in Toulouse. This was our stomping grounds last year. Darn. If only we'd waited a year. We would'a been in the thick of it!

If we waited a year, we could'a been part of the excitement. OTOH, maybe its a good thing that we avoided the travelling circus. In any event, we'll be watching NBC-SN on Wednesday to see the helicopter views of where we spent a week last year.

Monday's TDF stage crossed this bridge in Albi...

I noticed the stage that ended in Colmar ended right next to the cheap hotel we were staying at on our trip through there (I'm guessing it wasn't so cheap during the Tour). Albi looks incredible. Definitely on the list of places to visit in the future after seeing it on TV.
