I went out to check the gas meter, but sun was at wrong angle and I couldn't tell if the shut off had tripped or not. We had to tell the gardener to avoid bumping the gas meter with the green can as he squeezed past it. No fun waking up the next day and finding the shower water is cold. Cliff went out later, and he thinks the valve didn't trip -- we'll see.

Didn't feel anything here in north San Diego County. I only found out about it because Google's newsfeed said Disneyland shut down a bunch of rides because of an earthquake. I was at Disneyland during the Northridge quake. I was in the Disneyland Hotel at the time and it was swaying back and forth and making lots of creaking noises. I remember all the aftershocks at the park the next day. I hope it didn't scare people as bad this time as it did last time.

Dr. Lucy is back -- yesterday was a foreshock, had a major rocking about 8:30pm. 7.1 this time. Flashlights have been rounded up and batteries checked, just in case.

This one felt worse than yesterday. I hope that we do not get a bigger one that unlocks the San Andreas fault that was blocked by the 1933 Long Beach quake that was discussed yesterday. Keep our fingers crossed!

Dr. Lucy is giving a good explanation right now.

I am watching Dr. Lucy right now. She is very informative and does a good job of relating to the ordinary folk. We are in Rawlins, WY right now, visiting family.

I hope every TUG member in SoCal is safe.

Through our family network I learned that my cousins in Ridgecrest are fine, but there is a lot of damage in their house with things breaking and falling over. For example, their grandfather clock fell over.

We are about 250/300 miles north of Ridgecrest, and surprisingly we felt the earthquake pretty strongly. Our pool sloshed for a good 20 min. and our hanging ceiling lamps and fans swung for quite awhile. Not only did we feel the initial earthquake, but we felt several aftershocks, as well.

Glad they are ok. I also heard from family that felt it in Northern California. I felt several of the earthquakes tonight in LA. And... it’s time for me to get a new earthquake kit.

It's fun to read the news stories from the east coast places. They make it sound 100 X worse than it was. I can't tell you how many times I've been contacted by someone asking me about an earthquake and I have no idea what they are talking about.

I didn't feel the one from last night at all. My daughter who lives near downtown San Diego felt it. I am closer to the epicenter and didn't feel it at all. Maybe that's cause I have vertigo and I always feel like there's an earthquake. :ponder:

Every time we have an earthquake here in the area north of Seattle, I either sleep through it, or I think it's the trains that drive through my town causing a rumbling. I guess I should pay more attention to things.

When I lived in San Diego they were frequent enough that we'd just stop and wait for the shaking to end. But even then, it felt like a big truck had driven by the house.

I hope nobody is hurt by this wave of things, and that things settle down soon.

Several times in the past during smaller earthquakes I've felt a change in the atmosphere. Almost like an electrical charge. One time that stands out in my mind was around 5:30 pm and our department on the top floor of a medium sized three story office building was staying a few extra hours to finish something up. We all felt the slight rumble, but when I said it was an earthquake, not a truck passing by, I got poopooed. I insisted it was a quake because of the charge I felt, and a few minutes later it was confirmed on several desk radios (WAY before internet days). On big quakes the shaking is definitely the most pronounced feeling and I guess overshadows the Spidey tingle.

I just talked to my cousin in Ridgecrest: Their power was off yesterday, which is not good, because Ridgecrest is in the Mohave Desert, but it's back on again today. They didn't sleep well last night because of the constant aftershocks which were strong enough to wake them up.

The day the Nortridge quake struck, our area, which was at least an hour's drive away, rolled and quivered all day long. I can't imagine being in Ridgecrest this morning.

Goodyear is on the west side of Phoenix and last night around 8:30, hubs took the dog out. He opened the door and said for me to come out because he wanted to show me something. Our pool water looked like the ocean waves! We did not feel anything, just saw the water moving when the pumps were not on! We came in and turned on the local news - several people were sending in videos of the water in their pools lapping up on the sides. The TV station lights were swaying slightly for a minute or so.

It has to be very scary when you are so close to the epicenter. Thank goodness that there are no casualties and only minor injuries so far.

Interesting that you could feel the earthquake from so far away and even more so than we are feeling it here about 100 plus miles away.

We didn't feel either quake here in north inland San Diego County. We tend to feel the ones that hit the Colorado Desert (Imperial Valley or Mexicali). We did feel the '94 Northridge quake big time.

This is my hometown. I live in Texas now. I still have a lot of family and friends there. Thank goodness everyone is ok and their property sustained only minor damage. It definitely shook violently there and there have been constant aftershocks. Lots of damage there. The naval base there has been locked down and not considered safe for workers - except for essential personnel. The hospital has evacuated many people. Power and water is out in many areas. What a nightmare.

I hope the librarians can just chill and wait a few days before putting books back on the shelves, rather than have to pick stuff up a third time. At least books don't make a mess like wine bottles do, although I wouldn't want to be the one assigned to mop up the aisle with the glass bottles of olive oil at the local grocery store, wine would be easier to mop up.
