I've spent a few weeks in Charleston WV over the past year or so and found myself really liking it there. They get a surprising number of big name concerts. The people are nice there. They treat us like family at the Marriott downtown. The Farmers Market and the Purple Onion are a must stop on every visit. I was there one year at Halloween and both the Farmer's Market and the local Mall had big events for the kids.

The only downside I've found for a business traveler is that they don't have a lot of flights, so it takes about 9 hours for me to fly there from home (counting the long layover). I can fly home in a more reasonable time frame, but I usually just drive. Works better except for the times I had snow or torrential rain on the trip. If you do fly, it takes about 20 seconds to go through security. Maybe a minute if they give you a lot of scrutiny.

11. Some great whitewater rafting, like the Gauley with a Class III put-in.
