The problem with getaways and the whole policy is that it really isn't written anywhere for you to refer to it when you don't get your nights automatically after a stay. It is kind of a gray area, at it has always been for years. The policy for Vistana home resort stays was written in to an email after the merger of VAC and ILG last year. THe one for Marriott goes back many years to an email owners got. Other than that, the policy isn't written anywhere and the people that are in charge of awarding the nights in the Marriott Bonvoy team, completely separate companies from Marriott Vacation Club and Vistana. If the nights don't automatically post, it is usually a fight to get them.

Are II exchanges and getaways officially entitled to the Elite nights? Without a written policy, we don't know. People get them quite often by having their Bonvoy number attached to the reservation. But if you don't have it attached or you don't get them, the people who are in charge of missing stay requests have no clue.

I have never had an issue with not receiving credit for nights stayed on an exchange or Getaway. We've done both, using Marriott weeks, Vistana weeks, and even Hyatt weeks for the exchanges.

We recently stayed at the Marriott Grand Chateau on an II exchange. We were flying to Vegas a couple of days before that exchange started so I rented 2 nights via Marriott.com. Long story short, because I did the exchange about a week before we were actually going, there was an issue when checking in. II didn't push the notification to MGC with my name on it. It just showed up as an exchange for someone (no name). It took a bit of doing but we finally got it sorted out and I made sure I attached my Marriott # to it. When we checked out they were supposed to email me a copy of my portfolio. They didn't and life became a little crazy and I didn't think about it.

Then when I got a chance to look I noticed those 7 nights didn't post to my Marriott account. I realized I had never gotten a copy of my portfolio either, so I contacted MGC and they emailed one to me right then. I then took that and filled out the "Missing Stay" form on Marriott.com. In less than 24 hours, my account was credited with the 7 nights and the missing points from purchases we made while staying there.

Just to update my previous posts, we returned from Newport Coast on Saturday. The 7 nights are already posted to my rewards account as well as the points earned while on property plus the bonus.
