I’ve always been partial to The Man in Seat 61, www.seat61.com for all things train. I’m surprised it wasn’t mentioned.

Cheers

Wow! The man in seat 61 is always the first place I go to and refer to and check back with throughout my ticket buying process. He is the ultimate instruction manual for buying rail tickets in Europe. He also tells you which sites tack on unnecessary surcharges.

Telling someone to buy a Eurail pass is kind of like telling someone to buy their timeshare directly from the developer.

I just read the first comment on the article. Poster says the article is poorly researched. I agree.

Seat61 is great! I used it just a couple weeks ago to research trains over the Alps and it was quite helpful in deciding which route to take and how to save ~$150 on tickets (as it turns out, buying one part from DB and the other from the Swiss).

Agreed to no Eurail. We’ve always done much better with point to point tickets. If you can commit in advance, the savings are large. Booking is quite easy online. We’ve booked directly with national train company for Italy uk Austria switzerland and France.

Man in Seat 61 for sure. He gives advice for best sites to book with, e.g. for our Budapest-Munich rail trip, he suggested booking thru the Austrian rail site for business class, which we did. He gives information on the train stations, the trains and seating charts. From him I learned that we will get to use a "first class" lounge in Budapest while waiting for our train and pictures were included. Love that guy!
