If what you have works, stay with it. If buy more points, your maintenance fee obligation go up. I’m not sure if the maintenance fees on the weeks will change when they convert them to points, so ask about that, and check the paperwork. If you think points will work for you, tell them to lower the price. I believe I did hear the minimum purchase to covert a week was 105,000 points per week. I cannot say that with any complete authority. However, for 210,000 points, I wouldn’t spend more then $25k. They will probably balk at that, but tell them you’ll talk to telesales when you get home. If they say telesales cannot convert a week, then say “Then I guess it wasn’t meant to be then”
If you do decide to go VIP with this, do it before the changes next year. You’ll keep current benefits plus get any new ones. They are doing away with unlimited housekeeping credits, and who knows what else. You would keep them if you go VIP before the changes and will not have to worry about housekeeping fees.
I will say it one more time though, If what you have works, I say stick with it. However, If VIP appeals to you, consider using those weeks to get points cheap. $30,000 for 770,000 points is cheap, but you want to make sure you will use the Gold benefits. Discounts and upgrades are difficult to come by during prime season, so if you travel exclusively during prime season, consider the discounts and upgrades as a bonus and not a guarantee. Also, VIP does not have any monetary value. It’s all perceived value. If you feel there is enough perceived value to warrant the $30,000, and you can afford it, go for it. It’s your money, and no one else should tell you what to do with it. I’m Gold VIP and use the benefits a lot. It works for me. It doesn’t work for everyone though. So keep doing what your doing and research.
