My girlfriend and I have decided to marry soon (guess I should call her my fiance' now:)).

We are getting married on short notice - 2 months, so no time to reserve a nice honeymoon spot in Hawiai...(or even San Diego)

(Long term owner in Carlsbad, Marbrisa, sliver 5800 pts/2yr)

Thus, we have opted for Vegas. (We have also stayed at the Vegas Boulevard, (enjoyed the resort, but was with my ex!) and the Elara (very nice, put parking is atrocious))

Looking for something FRESH and new for our honeymoon experience...so that means Paradise/Flamingo or Trump.

Trump is the definitely the most expensive points, so I also suspect the most luxurious; and I am certainly leaning in that direction because of this "Honeymoon" experience; however, it has the lowest satisfaction rating in Vegas for Hilton and I am wondering why...

Also there is this disclaimer...

  • Please be advised that Trump International Hotel Las Vegas requires a $100 PER DAY deposit to cover incidental charges from the hotel. This amount will be calculated at the time of check-in and your credit card will be authorized for the total number of days of your stay. Any unused amount authorized will be released to your credit card 7 to 10 business days after check-out.

What could this be about? I suspect parking/wifi are free like the others....why in the world would they charge my card 5-600 bucks ("each night). It sounds safe enough since I dont' plan on any expensive "incidentals". What would these "incidentals" consists of?

Finally, has anyone ever had a hilton resort location add anything special for a "Honeymoon" couple? More than "mints" on a pillow...maybe a free upgrade on the room or view something? Just curious.

Thanks for your replies...

Any considerations or experiences you've had in Hilton Vegas would be appreciated

Congrats on the engagement!

I've never stayed at the Trump Las Vegas through Hilton, but I have through Priceline. It is a fantastic property other than being a 3-4 minute walk to the strip. We have been 'upgraded' to the top floors on anniversaries, so there may be a chance for an upgrade. If you are on the south side, you get amazing views of the strip. The mall roof is very large if you are on the lower floors. You are looking over it, but it is a very big expanse of white. If you are on the 35th or higher, you can sometimes even see the fountains of Bellagio if Treasure Island isn't in the way. It is a non-gaming location, so there is no smoke or ding dings as you go about the property. Parking is 'free' but is valet only and sometimes can have a bit of a wait.

I’m at the Trump now. Having visited the other 3 you mentioned, I like the Trump best for a couple. We are celebrating our anniversary. The deposit hold is likely due to the spa, restaurant and poolside dining. If you do go for a massage at the spa, check for a groupon. They have a very nice spa and you’ll get all-day access to spa amenities to compliment your time poolside. They also have a free shuttle to Caesar’s Palace if you don’t want to walk to the center of the strip.

We did open season cash rates since Trump allows open season more than 30 days out for some reason. Much better uses of HGVC points elsewhere.

Is this one of those shotgun weddings? If not, why the rush?
That said, my first wedding was cobbled together in 30 days.
... Young, foolish, and in heat.

But you should know this:
A woman marries a man thinking he will become a more a mature person.
A man marries a woman thinking she will stay the same fun loving beauty.
They will both be disappointed.
The truth is, he ain't gonna change, and she will.

We really like the Trump but typically reserve Open Season with cash because the point cost is high.

Flamingo has a nice pool with Boom Boom music and day parties if that's your thing. The rooms at Flamingo are nice but more like grandma's apartment.

There is a full bar and restaurant at the Trump pool so that's why the hold on your card.

My wife likes the Elara and some of the rooms are... well sexy with the big hot tubs and massive views. JMHO. Go see Lady Gaga's Jazz and Piano show. But the tickets last minute if you can, we did and stole them from the resale vendor (much like buying TS's). Not even a real big fan of her's but the show was unreal, like old school Vegas with 30 piece band and special guests (Tony Bennett showed up for our show).

I think many hotels put a deposit / soft hold on your credit card, but just dont tell you in advance. Like Buzzlyd says, they expect you will spend money on food and drinks, etc...

If you don't spend it, they wont charge you for it.

Funny saying, though after 30 years, pretty sure my wife and I have both changed... some things for the better and some for the worse...

Probably a lot of the poor reviews at Trump come from people who have never stayed there.

I think dioxide45 is probably right. We stayed in a 2BR at Trump (only HGVC available that week), and thought it was a lovely property. The suite and service throughout the hotel were outstanding.

We had a family reunion a few months later in Las Vegas, and we could've all stayed in Trump with points, but met adamant opposition because of the name on the building. We ended up with "premium" suites in Polo Towers - a HUGE downgrade!

Trump is definitely opulent. But if you can get the south side of the building like we did, there are some amazing views possible. The bathrooms are luxurious, and our 1BR even had a guest bathroom. I posted pics (we were there in January for a promo sales trip). Our view was from (only) the 39th floor, so I'm sure even better ones are possible. We were there 3 nights and faced North for the first 2 nights. I kept checking to see if south was available, and I lucked out for the last night.

Location-wise, I prefer Elara as it's more in the middle of things, and it's connected to Miracle Mile shops and Planet Hollywood (plus, walking in A/C more!). But it beats the heck out of the Boulevard one that's as far north of Trump as Trump is of the Bellagio. It is right across from the Fashion Show Mall, which is massive. They also have a shuttle that runs to the Forum shops at Caesars Palace as well as to the shops at Wynn.

I stayed in a 1 bedroom via a RCI trade last year. It is a wonderful property and the service was top notch. Be sure to request a higher floor with a view of the strip.

This is a really tough one to answer because Vegas can be experienced in so many different ways and it really depends on the experience you want. If you want a quiet, high end experience, Trump is it; if you want to be in the action, Trump is probably not the best choice.

Something else to consider, late July - early Aug is the low season and rates at the high end Vegas properties can be pretty reasonable...like under $200 per weekday night at Wynn or Venetian. It could be a better value to pay rack rates at one of those properties and save your HGVC points for another trip.
