Although Memorial day started out as a day to remember & honor military personnel who have died, it has become more than that: a day to remember all our friends and family who are no longer with us.

Some will say it shouldn't just be only 1 day of the year that we do this. However each person remembers their loved ones in their own way. In our busy lives some need a day's break to take time to reflect and remember.

Driving past a church earlier today, the marquee said, HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!! I was (and remain) appalled!! Memorial Day (formerly 'Decoration Day) is set aside for remembrance and recognition of the freedoms we enjoy, and the sacrifices our servicepeople made so we could enjoy it. I guess if one enjoys the freedom to shop for furniture or garden supplies, well and good. You'll notice me by the poppy on my lapel. And if I was missing at the mall, it's because I was at the cemetery.
