I heard a rumor that the 7 mile bridge is going to be reduced to one lane. Signal lights at either end. Is this happening? When is construction expected to end? How long of a wait will this cause driving?

I found this on the Florida DOT website:

Seven Mile Bridge over Moser Channel from MM 40 to MM 46.8 in Monroe County.
...
To complete this project safely, it will be necessary to close travel lanes and shoulders at times during construction. Tasks will be done in stages, and closures will be scheduled to minimize impacts to the public and special events. Temporary lane and shoulder closures may occur during non-peak hours, which are:
  • 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday
Est. Completion date: November 2019

I used to go to Key West (from Dallas) year after year. Flying into Fort Lauderdale and driving became a Royal pain so I switched to flying into Fort Myers and taking the catamaran. It was more relaxing and it didn't cost a whole lot. Since I always stayed around Duval Street I really didn't need a car and better yet I didn't have to find a place to park...

Good idea George, as long as the sea cooperates. If waters are rough then I'd prefer driving.

Can you schlepp a bunch of luggage on the catamaran?

Luggage no problem if you don't go crazy with it. Best I recall it was "officially" limited to 2 carryons...
