On one of my son's Christmas trips home from college in Southern California to Portland the back of his suitcase was peeled from top to bottom. Somehow all his belongings survived intact. The Airline Agent took us to a back room. It was full of new siitcases. Eric was told to pick the one he wanted. Of course this was back in the 90's.

Moral of the story:
Don't fly with more than $2000 worth of clothes.

I doubt I fly with more than $200 worth of clothes... :D
(I sure don't have a $500 Gucci belt!)

You would be amazed at how much it costs to replace things.

My luggage was delayed on a trip to Quebec City. I had to buy enough "stuff" to get me through for about 3 days. I think my reimbursement was between $800 - $900.

Oh, I'm sure. I was just making light of the fact that her taste in clothes is probably polar opposite of mine. Other than a suit or a sports jacket (both of which I hate wearing), I rarely if ever spend more than $100 for a piece of attire, let alone $500 for a belt!

I was pleased the air line company was able to reimburse this guest a monetary check.

Happened to us the one time we went to Hawaii. Husband’s bag was ripped open, but apparently his clothes were still in it. They gave us a new bag, and we transferred everything. If anything fell out, we didn’t remember it. They also broke the wheels on another bag, but said it wasn’t covered

Hawaii is a great place to buy "resort wear". When we went to Kauai, we had to go to the thrift store and buy extra luggage to bring back all the clothes we bought.

Sad to say, I still have the Hawaiian flower print shirts.
