If a reservation made through Hilton.com is canceled, does that unit become available for booking to hgvc points owners or does it remain in the hotel side’s inventory?

It’s separate unfortunately. I wish they would release the.com for owners to rent. Most of our stays have been off season and occupancy is low but owners are shown zero availability.

HGVC Units available on Hilton.com is due to owners converting hgvc points to Hhonors points. It’s hiltons way of getting paid for that service.

As Cyberc stated one of the reasons that HGVC units become available is due to owners converting HGVC points to Hilton Honors or other perks such as cruises, airlines tickets, car rental etc. Once that is done the nights become Hiltons. There would be no reason for them making that available to HGVC owners as open season

Yes, but just to clarify: They only end up on the Hilton.com inventory for that particular week/year, not for future years, unless the owner of those points does the same thing the following year. As I understand it, if the owner of those points uses them for another HGVC resort, the original unit and week normally remains in HGVC.

However, if that original week/unit remains unused, then at some point HGVC may release it to Hilton or other resellers to rent. Hilton.com may also pick up inventory that is yet unsold and still owned by HGVC or its developer and they "sell" it to Hilton for that year. This is all managed by HGVC in the background to make the most efficient use of each unit and week.

It's actually a more complex process than that, but that is a simplified explanation.

Its all spelled out in the rules document.

Use of Accommodations by HGV.

Beginning the first day of the Open Season reservation window, Hilton Grand Vacations reserves the right to utilize accommodations for its own purposes including for exchange, inspection visits, promotions, rentals, special programs, or any other purposes in Hilton Grand Vacations’ sole discretion . Additionally, when a Member exchanges their ClubPoints for benefits or services other than Affiliated Resort accommodations, such as ClubPartner Perk reservations or Honors points, Hilton Grand Vacations must pay the third party for the Member’s use thereof . As such, Hilton Grand Vacations, in its sole discretion, may rent or otherwise use the accommodations relinquished by that Member or other unused inventory to cover the cost of such third party benefits and services . In renting accommodations as described herein, HGV may use historical reservation data for the property to forecast the accommodations projected to remain unused by Club Members or to be used by Club Members for other benefits and services requiring monetization by HGVC and rent such accommodations prior to the start of the Open Season reservation window in order to maximize occupancy levels at the property .

Additionally, inventory owned by a developer or an affiliated resort and not yet sold, may be made available for reservation by Members or used by the developer for any purpose including but not limited to, exchange, rental, Elite privileges and promotional purposes .

This, while I believe is true, I have a problem with HGVC. Units that are owned by HGVC members that are NOT reserved by members by the end the Club Reservation window should only become Open Season Availability for members.

I totally agree with HGVC doing whatever the want with these units: when a Member exchanges their ClubPoints for benefits or services other than Affiliated Resort accommodations, such as ClubPartner Perk reservations or Honors points, Hilton Grand Vacations must pay the third party for the Member’s use thereof.

I have seen that at W57th where I can't get a room and yet I see them on Hilton.com. Yes frustrating to say the least.
