Sounds like they are talking about not leaving your passport in a small carry on that might need to be gate checked. I always carry my passport with me, in my backpack, when I travel. I use it for identification. And I'm not putting it in checked luggage as there have been cases when my checked luggage didn't make it to the same destination as I did.

I carry a really big purse and keep anything like that in it. If I am forced to check the bag, I have a tote or backpack in the carryon to which I move medications and electronics.

Indeed. Passports stay on my person.
I put things like keys, coins & my cell phone, in a carry-on just to walk-thru TSA a bit faster (I have yet to try out my idea of wearing PJ's), but as soon as I find a convenient table, whatever came out of my pockets goes back in my pockets.

The Commander In Chief, kept our Passport with her until we have boarded our cruise ship.

I have seen PJ’s been wormed in the airport in Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
Must be something in the water.

everywhere I travel my backpack accompanies me. My backpack has a security pocket, specifically designed for a passport. That's where my backpack stays, all of the time. I occasionally gate check a roller bag, but that backpack is never checked.

The same with me. I put my belt and anything in my pockets, especially anything metallic, in my carry-on's front pouch to get through screening, then it all comes back out once we clear the security screening. My passport stays on me, unless my DW and I are travelling together, in which case both passports stay in her purse.

I also only wear slip-on shoes now to go through airports, in case I have to remove them. Each airport seems to have different rules these days. I finally got tired of having to untie and retie the shoes for security.

Good idea.
DW wore her house slippers to a restaurant last week (accidentally).
Perhaps I'll wear my moccasins.
