This is the second or third incident this year that a cruise ship has collided with an another cruise ship or a pier. Sound like the cruise industry needs to address this problem before a major incident occurs. IMO.

In related news, competitors of Holland America now refer to the ship as the Oopsterdam......

All they need is some baling wire, a couple of rolls of duct tape, and a good handyman, and they should be good to go.

When in port, it's the pilot that's in essence driving the ship.

To correct the mildly inaccurate statement above, When in port, a licensed pilot is generally in command of the vessel.

In that case, they are at least in the right country. While the Canadian TV comedy "The Red Green Show" (also seen on PBS) is no longer in production, it is in reruns and its host, Steve Smith, is still on tour. I am sure Steve would not mind a trip out to Vancouver to help out with the ever-present roll(s) of duct tape.:clap:

As Steve (Red Green) always said, "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy." :D:D

Carmen McRae used to sing about her handy man.

In some cases it may not be the captain at the helm when in certain ports....
Lots of locations require a Marine Pilot to be in charge in harbors. Captains are usually still with them when they are piloting the vessel.
