Is a Chase Business Preferred a better card for Marriott room charge?

I was reading The Points Guy. He suggested the CBP to buy points because you get 3 UR points per $ in travel category. SPG card would only give 2 points.

Would it also be better to use the CBP for room charge (without incidentals)? Or better to use the AmEx SPG or Marriott Bonvoy card?

With the Amex Bonvoy, you get 6 MR points per $ spent at Marriott hotels and 5 MR points with the Marriott Bonvoy. Also with the Marriott Bonvoy, you get 1 elite night credit for every $3,000 expenditure.

I really like the Chase Sapphire Reserve. I would try to equate the Amex Luxury Bonvoy card to CSR, but it's just too complicated to compare. I have tried to figure out what Marriott points are worth, but it's not been easy. I decided to not risk the brain damage. SPG was superior to Marriott. I have no idea how to use my SPG points, even at the 3X they gave me.

If you consider just the fact that it takes 3 Marriott points for one airline point, that alone should tell you what a Marriott point is worth. And then you have to find a flight that is low enough points to make those worthwhile. Alaska, for example, has no 40K point flights for Hawaii anymore. It takes 80K points to get to Hawaii in first class, even from SEA or OAK, while the cash cost of the ticket is less than $600.

He is a good source for general info but his credit card advice tends to always be towards cards that give nice referral bonuses.
He also tends to forget about property specific bonus. So that advice is good if staying at a Motel 6, bit not when staying at a Marriott because of the bonuses. Plus if you are one night short of getting status, those charges you gave up may come back to haunt you.

If you are buying points off Marriott site, it does not fall under travel category.

Is that the Chase Business Preferred you’re referring to?
Bonvoy Brilliant AMEX Card. Received 2X the value in points. Not sure of the purchase category using Chase cards.
