Well darn, just when I decided it was safe to put a phone number on the guest confirmation, trusting that Wyndham was truly using it only to contact the guest during their stay (the welcome text, let us know if you need anything, and checkout by text information seems nice and I was hopeful that was all the information was used for)... I've started getting phone calls for getaway vacation offers (the 4 day/3 night or 3 day/2night stays for $299 or so, must attend a presentation).

What a bummer, I had hoped the information didn't make it to a marketing list - but I'm convinced that is how the data is getting to the getaway marketeers :-(

No surprise, right?

Nope, no surprise! I am sure Wyndham &/or RCI are either selling our information or an employee is taking it. See my post about it here; https://tugbbs.com/forums/index.php?threads/is-rci-selling-member-lists-telephone-numbers.289002/ I contacted RCI about it and they responded "We do not sell or rent such member information. It is our belief that these third-party companies may be using information it gathers from public sources to contact RCI members." I believe that is total BS, as anytime I fill out any travel contest or check-in forms I use my cellphone number but we are getting calls on our land line which is in our RCI account information and only goes on RCI forms and records.

The "renters" we send to Wyndham are a fantastic resource for Wyndham sales. They are travelers who appreciate a large room for a great price, usually a two bedroom unit for about the price of a small hotel room. All the salesman has to do is convince the renter that they could have the same room whenever they wanted it for a CHEAPER price than we provided. This, of course, is not likely true unless the buyer purchases a million points retail. Those of us who offer ridiculous prices, including me, have not helped this perception, as most experienced renters have learned how to get a fantastic deal on a Wyndham room from any of us competing with each other on this forum or others. And this source of "new meat" for the sales staff is why Wyndham has not slammed shut the door for "commercial activity" of renting timeshare units. That, at least, is my opinion.

So I NEVER provide a renter's email or phone number on the reservation.

I've been using my own email address and phone number but the volume of texts is becoming super-annoying.

I had been using my own email address and phone number, as well. And yes, the texts are becoming quite annoying.

But if they were going to guests instead, it seemed the information might be useful? Welcoming them, giving them a number to text if they need anything, texting them the day before checkout (and you can text them to checkout). I wasn't getting any telemarketing calls and thought it might be safe to actually put a guests phone number on the confirmation (instead of mine). But I am now convinced they are using for marketing purposes. I guess it's time for a dummy cell number.

As far as email, I always use mine. Wyndham emails are hit or miss. If you put a guests on you would never know for sure if they received the confirmation.
