Ok, there is a thread about Warner Brother Cartoons, but what about the Japanese versions?

I started out with Gigantor, Voltron and then Speed Racer. They were pretty much simple stories.

When I was older, I discovered Star Blazers. It was a saga, you had to see each episode in order (This was before VCR's). Even in its bowdlerized format, it had complex characters and themes. It also told the story from the "Villain's" point of view and the story antagonist is transformed during the course of the story. My mind was blown!

My favorite Animes are:
  • Cowboy BeBop (AWESOME soundtrack!)
  • Ghost in the Shell (Animated films and TV series)
  • Sword Art Online
  • Mecha
    • Eureka Seven
    • Gundam
    • Evangelion
    • Gurren Lagann
  • Fooly Cooly
  • Naruto/Boruto
  • Hunter x Hunter
  • Fullmetal Alchemist

Any other fans out there?

I watched anime for several years while my son was in university as he introduced me to it. I stopped after life got busy, which was about 10 years ago. There was a one night showing of Fate Stay Night, part 2, in the movie theatre across the US last Thursday, 3/14. My son and I watched it together. Part 3 will be released next year in Spring. I watched the first series that were on Japanese series years ago. There have been many alternative story lines on Japanese television, sort of like Star Wars. Prequel, Sequel and alternative "realities".

One of my favorites is Shakugan no Shana. Just love the little red haired girl.

What’s the movie called that has a little girl and her mom is sick so her father is taking care of her? I like that one.

I don’t remember. It not a new movie, maybe from the 1990’s? I remember them walking a long journey to see their mom. I’ll try to find the name of it...

Oh Wow, now you are getting into some really good stuff!

This is the work of Hayao Miyazaki, he is a giant in animation. Many of today's animators got their inspirations from his body of work. You are probably familiar with another of his movies - Howl's Moving Castle.
