Does anyone have any advice in terms of reserving a specific view at WKORVN. I made my reservation as soon as my 12 month window opened and requested an ocean view room on a high floor closest to the beach. I was given 7266, which is an inside room above the pool on the second floor. While I guess it qualifies as an "ocean view" room, I would think it might be one of the worst ocean view rooms in the entire resort. Any tricks to make sure of a better view in the future other than purchasing ocean front?

We are also Ocean View - seems like most OV are on the Molokai view side - good view with the open space between you and Nanea and no direct afternoon Sun (which can be good or bad depending..). Was told by onsite owner services that Saturday start has the most opens.

Also noted that the Westin/SVO/Vistana/Marriott also rent "hotel" Ocean View rooms on their website - don't know how they get at the front of the priority queue.

We are getting ready to signup for next year at 9 PST.

At WKORVN the ocean view rooms are only in Building 7. You’re not going to get any closer.

From an older TUG thread - http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=166936
Priority/Pecking Order:
- Multiple week owner at the same resort
- Single week at the same resort
- 5* Elite using StarOptions
- 4* Elite using StarOptions
- 3* Elite using StarOptions
- No Elite status with SVN using StarOptions
- Interval International trader

NOTE: There are also fixed week/fixed unit owners.

From the sticky thread - https://tugbbs.com/forums/index.php?threads/wkorv-n-unit-map-w-numbers.77373/
It's a snowy day so I finally got around to transcribing the view designations at WKORV-N as listed in my Owner's manual. I thought it would help people who are buying resale to double check the view that they are buying. Also, if we are enterprising, maybe someone can cross reference this with Denise's map to figure out how Starwood has labeled their villas.

What day of week did you arrive and how long did you stay?

We actually arrived on Friday, but stayed the first two nights on a Staroptions reservation. We began our owner's week on Sunday.

Typically, either of those days should have a significant number of rooms for arrivals but I know things have changed since they permitted arrivals any day of week. There have been a few times I simply ask nicely at checkin if there are any other available units instead, and sometimes they find one in a location I think is better (and they think is worse, such as a building 7 lower floor north view).

Personally, I prefer building 7 but I do prefer the north view (though not as much now that Nanea is there, and when at the end of the building there’s significant street noise). Even so, I’ve had building 6 and 7 where you are many times and enjoyed it.

We own OV at WKORVN. We have made our reservations at the 12 month mark all except one time (and all of these were Saturday arrivals). That one time, we received a room on the Molokai side. The other times we were overlooking the pool, which we found we prefer. We found the road noise on the Molokai side to be disconcerting. We don't mind pool noise and liked the people watching activity over the pool - if we were going to have a room overlooking open space, we wanted it to be peaceful without the road noise. We hardly used the balcony that trip. We realize that it's a preference.

Not sure I had seen this map in detail. I didn’t realize that they consider first and second floor of an otherwise OV location as island view. This explains why I’m sometimes able to get building 7, floor 2 upon request at checkin. FWIW, the view is just fine though obviously not as nice as higher floors.

These two reservations would have different timestamps.

Did you change rooms after the 2nd night of your 9 night stay?
If you requested to stay in the same room then perhaps that contributed to the lower floor assignment. :ponder:

Aloha,

I made a 5 night reservation using Options at midnight at 8 months out and got Oceanfront at North property. I assume I will be in either building 5 or building 8. Are 1st floor rooms considered Oceanfront? If I get "stuck" (haha) on 1st floor is there a good view or will it be "disappointing?" (really? Maui disappointing is very, very relatively speaking!!)

All floors are Oceanfront in 5 and 8. Statistically you have a better chance of a nicer room in 8 as some in 5 look directly at or over the Paiolo Bar and bathrooms.

I agree but as an owner I hate Building 8 for Oceanfront because it is the only building which is inaccessible from inside corridors during inclement weather, which isn't often but still. Also, I detest the adult pool due to the perennial shade and wind. The architect blew it on that pool.

Luckily, I've only been in Building 8 twice since WKORVN was built. I've learned to be one of the first to reserve!

That view map is a little strange. Consider the area where building 2 and building 6 face each other. Building 2 is considered ocean view and building 6 is island view, yet 6 gets a better view of the ocean than 2 because of the angle. I know it well, because the last 3 times we were there we were either in that row of units in 2 and 6, and we were overlooking the pirate ship pool from either location, but could see the ocean better from 6. We got tired of getting stuck there, so we splurged for ocean front next time using more options.
