Its pretty stupid to me and in prime time too, on Saturday nights. Any TUG members think RCI is behind the times?
Why not have a system like Alexis...Just say Hey, Alexis, find me an exchange over Christmas time in Colorado ski country! Just my two cents! Mel

RCI has been "down for maintenance" every weekend for at least fifteen years, (since I've been a member), and probably long before that. I think they want the membership to think they're making all these fancy enhancements to improve the member experience. It's ridiculous, of course, because the website doesn't work any better now than it did when I started with them. I think it's all smoke and mirrors so they can justify their constantly-increasing fees and surcharges.

I do like your Alexa concept. Let me know when that's an option. ;)

My own personal theory is that RCI's entire computer operation is currently (and for many years now) actually run by the grade school children of Carmel, Indiana as part of their "Introduction to Computers" program.

Those youngsters have to attend other classes, sleep, do their homework, play, enjoy their school vacations, etc. so it is little wonder (to me) that RCI's system is historically, consistently and routinely subject to various hiccups and down time.

Again, just my own personal theory... :)

When would you like them to perform upgrades and backups?

As someone that has spent many a Saturday overnights and sleeping Sundays, I can tell you its not by choice. I would like to get all the hours back I had to take a site offline so that DBAs and Techs could perform backups, software upgrades, security patches, hardware repairs and upgrades, etc.

Oh dark thirty Saturday night is the IT industry standard time for maintenance.

I understand your point, and agree that it has to happen sometime. But how often do you need to take it all down, for hours at a time, on a weekly basis? In most cases, the results support the effort. I think in RCI's case, they don't accomplish a lot for the frequency of the downtime. At my hospital, our server techs are able to accomplish a lot on a much smaller timeframe. They are focused and specific to what they're doing. Efficiency has to account for that difference.

How about Interval International? They do NOT ever take their system down, They have a duplicate system to switch over to!

I have lived this life too - as much as the OP may not like the fact that a system is unavailable there has to be a time to perform upgrades, backups and maintenance.

I will guarantee you this is not entirely accurate - if for no other reason than the data integrity would be compromised.
