Hey Everyone , Especially New Orleans Specialists,

I have 2 nights Feb 27-28 booked and I now need March 1st .

What are the chances of a Friday night coming available at either resort? Should I just book a hotel now or wait ?

Any other suggestions ?

Thanks in advance

weekend always book up. Find a hotel that you can cancel and keep looking for a night to pop in once you hit the 15 day mark. You might get lucky.

30 day or 15 day ?

Sorry it is 14 days to book 1 night bookings. I am mixing up dates with Hilton. I was just looking at my HGVC account. I went back and fixed my original post response.

Your right Ron, didn't even consider the date, but it is the weekend before Mardi Gras. Damn. Tough weekend to find something.

Which New Orleans Wyndham is in a better location for access to sightseeing in general and which for the Mardi Gras?

Lots of folks prefer the French quarter, others would advise to avoid it

Wyndhams la belle Madison is downtown in the warehouse district a block off Canal st (cross canal and you are in the French quarter)

Avenue plaza is in (or on the edge of) the Garden District, a residential area

Both are excellent, different but one is not better than the other. When I rented this stuff must folks wanted La Belle Maison because it’s newer, nicer and close to the French Quarter. Often If I didn’t have what they wanted and they had to accept Avenue Plaza; the next year they changed their tune and asked for Avenue Plaza

La Belle Maison was purpose built as a timeshare. Units are bigger and newer and the baths are big and have jetted tubs, but most units open to the center atrium (no windows to the outside) don’t have full kitchens. Parking is off site and the pool isn’t much larger than a hot tub

Avenue Plaza was built as an all suites hotel in the 1950’s although it’s been remodeled (several times) the bathrooms are 1950’s small without tubs. All units have a kitchen (built along one wall in the living room) There is a very nice courtyard with a small pool (large by New Orleans standards) and a roof top deck. And there is a haunted house on the property you can tour. Valet parking is on site and the big plus is the St Charles line streetcar stops in front of the building (although during Mardi Geas it dosent run (busses do instead) because the parades come right down st Charles ave and the “neutral ground” where the streetcars run is turned over to lawn chairs and stepladders the locals set up to watch the parades.

At Avenue Plaza The individual rooms do not have balconies but there is a common balcony over the front entrance that is perfect for old farts like me to watch the parades

If you have kids with you, Avenue Plaza will be your first choice
If you can’t tell Avenue Plaza is my favorite too

Studios at La Belle sleep 4. At Avenue Plaza some studios have 2 queens and sleep 4; some have one king so they sleep 2 but they allow 4. If you need two queens, call ahead to request one or bring an air mattress

During Mardi Gras Avenue Plaza has a “wrist band” system to restrict access to the building. You get one for each occupant(up to 4) but you can purchase additional wrist bands in a daily basis to accommodate local family or friends (day visitors)

I have stayed at both during Madi Gras. As usual Ron's advice is correct. La Belle is really nice and the access to the French quarter is great. At Avenue Plaza the balcony over the entrance was prime viewing space for the parades. If you plan to sit back and watch it is parades, it's the place. If you plan on spending a lot of time in the French quarter, La Belle is the place. If you are planning on wandering New Orleans, either is fine.

Just so we could experience both locations we have avenue plaza booked for 2 nights and booked a hotel in the French quarters for the last night. I kept checking but nothing came up.

Isn't today the drop day for March 1? And then you have to wait for them to restock. I think that you should be able to pick something up but you just have to be proactive.

Ron is right about everything. I stay at Avenue Plaza every year in December. We love the access to the street car and love going out St. Charles to view the Christmas lights.
I am booked at Avenue Plaza 2/28 till 3/6. This really surprised me, because even though I own there, they are converted fixed weeks for Halloween, so no ARP and my reservation was only done at 10 months out. Because I am in a Krewe that marches in the French Quarter on Fat Tuesday, I originally tried for La Belle Maison for its easier access to Quarter to avoid blocked roads and parades. But I am definitely looking forward to watching some of the parades from Avenue Plaza.
As far as chances of getting an extra night this late, it doesn't look good. Most hotels and such (Wyndham Timeshares) are at 95 to 98% filled by now.

We will be at Avenue Plaza for 5 nights from 3/26 to 3/31. It's our first trip to New Orleans. Since we're in Florida I though it would be a good idea to make it a stop over on our way home. Any suggestions on what to do there and where to go?

If you’re interested in history, don’t miss the World War II Museum. We could easily spend two days there. And of course that’s in addition to the Presbytere and Cabildo for earlier NO history. Ride the streetcar from Canal St. to Carrollton Avenue, see the mansions along St. Charles Ave., eat beignets and cafe au lait at Cafe du Monde on Decatur St. and climb up to the Riverwalk there and take note of the river level vs. street level.

And of course as Ron says, there’s also eating and drinking. I grew up in the NO suburbs and still have family there, so we always stop on the way to/from Florida to have dinner or lunch. Fortunately my family scopes out the great neighborhood places, away from the tourists, but we hope to hit the French Quarter on our next visit.

Maybe Ron or someone knows the answer to this but why are the saturday's always booked up at the new orleans resorts? I can check months out and they will have avails sunday - friday but saturday is almost always blank. Even right now I'm looking a month - two, out and there are plenty of weekdays, even thursdays and friday and sundays but not a saturday on the board. Seeing that you can't book one night until 14 days out, how you can clear out a day from the calendar every month with out clearing out more than one day? I mean I could understand if every Friday and Saturday was booked, or even every saturday and sunday (though I think you have to have a minimum of three) but I just don't get how every saturday gets booked....help me understand :)

To simplify, say half the people check in on Thursday and check out on Sunday. The other half of the people check in on Saturday and check out on Tuesday. Saturday is completely booked - because no matter what other days different people are able to stay, *everybody* wants to be there on Saturday night - but every other night still has some availability.

I just checked Wyndham Rewards reservations and there is availability for Wyndham New Orleans French Quarter to check in on March 1st and and check out March 2nd for 15,000 points, when using Wyn. Rewards points. Otherwise, the cash price is $369 per night.

I haven’t made a reservation in a long time so I just don’t know. I’d call to ask

I think it is Wyndham blocking the Saturday nites out. There is no way there is available Friday's and Sunday but that Saturday is blocked out. I don't know why except to make our lives with Wyndham more complicated and miserable.

We spent the last four nights at Wyndham Avenue Plaza. It was a stopover on our way to Nashville from Destin, FL. It was our first time in New Orleans. The resort's building is old, but you can't tell. It is well decorated and nicely furnished. Resort amenities are fantastic. Rooftop patio, front street balcony and a very beautiful courtyard. You can catch the trolley out front which makes it easy to get around. If you haven't been there you are missing out. Lots to see in New Orleans. We are very impressed.
