I got an email offer to upgrade my SPG AMEX too. 125k points, 450 annual fee with 300$ credit. Have to spend 5k for points. Thoughts???
The Luxury card is a no brainer in my opinion as it pretty much more than pay for itself. You get 1 free cat6 night, priority pass and global entry fee credit in addition to the $300 credit I actually have the SPG and Aspire since both cards more than pay for themselves as well.

Rick is not getting any kind of offer for upgrading. I see no mention of the bonus points everyone else gets. Where would I see that? An email?

My DH received the best offer of 150k + Free night via email within 4 months of the AF renewal. You can also see these online in your account but those offers were not as good. He finally got the same good offer online about a month later. Make sure your account is opted in for promotional emails.

I received horrible offers for my upgrade so far e.g. only 15,000 points but my renewal isn't until April so waiting until I can get 150k + free night.

If I don't receive one - no loss. SPG Lux card is meh compared to the Hilton Aspire for the same AF which is a money-maker and the anniversary free night gets you any hotel in the system including Waldorf or Conrad. The only reason I would upgrade is for the 150k bonus points and extra free night. Then would downgrade/switch after a year.

For my DH, we plan to downgrade the lux after the first year and my personal SPG sits in the sock drawer until something better rolls along. If nothing, I may close the account to avoid the AF or may keep for the 35k free night if I can find a decent free night for the spend.

Datapoint: Just received the Anniversary night for 35k from the SPG business card. It arrived about 6 weeks after the anniversary date.

Datapoint (or an FYI): the CSR Card pays 3 points per $1 travel (and 3pts/$1 restaurants) and that includes MFs.
As our VSE MFs are huge (>$10K), and restaurant usage way up since our move - the points really add up and pretty versatile in usage.

Where did you move to?

Sold our home in SM last Nov (6 day escrow - no contingencies) and quickly moved into an apartment in Silicon Valley - Valley of the Sun ;)

Quite the life change - some serious downsizing.

Most Retirees move away from the chaos - we move deep into the Belly of the Beast. A great place if you don’t have to drive anywhere during commute hours (which is now most hours) and love Indian food. ;)
— and don’t mind the insane cost of living.

Our apartment life sort of reminds us of our vacation life now.

Where did you receive the Anniversary night? In your Marriott/Bonvoy account?
Did you get an email notifying you of the night deposit?
I think DH got his Amex card in a February, so will be looking for the anniversary night in March or so.

Funny, but I recall when SPG Amex sent out all those notices last summer about changes coming to the card, that others here on Tug thought everyone's anniversary date would reset to August. Hope the anniversary dates have not changed for both the SPG Amex consumer card as well as business card. We only have the personal consumer card.

For SPG Amex no email but I checked my account online today and it showed up on the Points Activity screen.

BTW...pleasantly surprised the 35k free night might work because there are a few Marriotts close to our kids colleges that charge 35k a night. So might keep the cards.

Still not sure about the where to use the 50k luxury free night without another lux card to make it a weekend so may downgrade after a year to get a third 35k night. It seems that all the places that I believe would be 50k are 60k so useless to spend extra on this card to stay at a 35k hotel.

Gold Elite is nice but hotel limits too complicated and not enough value compared to the Hilton Amex which offers unlimited free night + $250 airline credit in addition to the $250 resort credit.

Congrats on the move!
Now you don't have to worry about not being able to deduct state income and property taxes.

The offer I had been seeing to upgrade on my Amex account had been 50k points. Today I checked ( thanks points guy) and it is now 100k bonus. Pressed upgrade button, cards will be delivered in 7-10 days.

I hope, if they make changes, they will consider Canadians. We lost the Marriott VISA (which was a valuable card for foreign travel) and do not get as many benefits with the SPG Amex card. It is disheartening to read about luxury cards etc. that we do not have access to.
