I am in Colorado and went to a timeshare presentation ... didn't go for the $92K 1 bedroom ski week.

Funny part, the timeshare salesman wants to buy my WSJ unit I had in the bargain section. Anybody have suggestions on the best (cheapest) transfer agents to close the deal?

I believe you have to use someone local for the title transfer and that's why it's more expensive and challenging than domestic title transfers.

You should get a gold star for selling a timeshare to a timeshare salesman!

+1

Did you tell him that if he doesn't buy right now the price will be 50% higher once the merger is complete? :)

Could the sales person be looking to reconvert the week?
I am thinking that might be the case because:
- WSJ had a very high retail price, around 80k for a 2 bedroom platinum if I am not mistaken. So the credit he would get is also very high, even at 80%.
- The resale prices are very low, at least what i have occasionally seen listed. The maintenance fees are at the high end and some owners were probably very disappointed to see their resort destroyed by the hurricane.

If this is the case, it probably means that re-conversions are not going to be dead in the near future as some people have been told at recent owners updates. Yes, the sales person probably has a special deal because he works for Vistana but still, i do not think he would risk it if he knew changes would come very soon.

I'm sure the story changes with each update, but I was not offered the current very high retail price, only what the person who bought from the developer paid.(Only % of 30K - I have a two bedroom Plat +) So, unless the OP paid that kind of $$, the salesperson shouldn't get to claim that. Like I said probably changes with each owner update, and the rules are probably different for those on the other side of the desk.

I was told my week would cost 68K to buy now or something like that.

I was told the same thing, it is 80% not of the current price, not even 80% of the list price at the time of the original purchase but rather 80% of what the original owners paid. Still, you would expect the original price to be higher at WSJ than in Orlando for example, even if you do not know the discount it was bought at.

Interesting to note here, a friend of mine was just asked by a Vistana rep if he wanted to sell his Vistana contract (the rep was the buyer). What is going on? Is this common?

This was not a Vistana timeshare salesman ... this was a TS salesman for Grand Colorado on Peak 8 in Breckinridge ... who likes personally going to St. John

When we did our presentation at Peak 8 we spent most of the time (once he knew we weren't going to buy) teaching the rep about the advantages of joining TUG especially the Sightings section and answering his questions about how to maximize hotel points. My husband is a pro, his retirement hobby. The mtg was actually fun
