Hi, all. I'm going to wind up with 45 nights this year, which would put me at Gold. Looking to get those last five nights by doing one of the following:

  • spend 50K points for a 5-night "ghost" stay (I'll check in then leave)
  • do a rewarding event
  • ????
I would probably earn some of that 50K back with the 50% vs. 25% bonus, but probably not all of it. That's a CAT 2 (there aren't any CAT 1s around here).

Same position...4 nights short and the new credit card changes for the 15 night credit vs 10 don’t go into affect until next year. Thinking about saving the points and I found a cat 2 after Christmas for $65 a night, prepaid, ghost stay. I also called and asked them to make an exception, asked a supervisor, etc but no luck.

When i was in your position a few years ago, i called around to find the cheapest meeting room at a Marriott property for a meeting with 4 people. (can be anywhere in the world) No food, no drink needed. Confirm that you will receive the 10 nights stay for holding the meeting. They will probably tell you that there is no refund if you cancel, which is fine, then you pull a no show.

I called them the day after and apologized, also confirmed they were charging my card and the points were being issued. I think i paid $75. They were totally fine with it.

Do it 3 times and get Platinum:)

We are gold elite Vistana owners and reached platinum in October of this year through our timeshare stays. How long will this last before we go back to gold? Not sure what happens in the new year.

You should be Platinum next year if you reached it this year on SPG.

We decided to book a room in downtown Baltimore on the harbor for $67/night at the Sheraton, and we'll actually stay there a couple of nights. That'll get me Platinum on the dot (50 nights).

I travel for work and the lounge access is really important to me. I'll probably get about 8K points back all-in, so that's a better spend than the 50K points I would've done as outlined above.

I think I'll try the rewarding stays thing next year to make sure I get PP.

I have a Springhill Suites that’s a Cat 2 that’s .25 miles from me. You’re always welcome to make a reservation and add my name to it and I can check in for you. It’s where I place family over the holidays when I run out of room.

With the new version of the system no way to know if this will happen but historically they've often carried the same status forward a year even if you didn't "earn it".

I currently has 39 night, with 7 days in grand vista and 3 night at harbor lake at orland coming up 12/23 to 12/30 but grand vista week overlap harbor lake by 1 night. I am not sure whether I can get credit for the overlap stays. I also have the old Marriott credit card w 1 night for $3000 spent but statement won’t close till 12/19. I should get 2 night credit but not sure whether it will pose this year or next year.
If I am at 49 nights, will they give me platinum given I am only 1 night short, esp I would have pp if chase can post the Marriott credit card night this year?

I have 91 nights so far between stays and credit card. However, it does not matter because I am Presidential in MVC so I automatically get Platinum Presidential Elite in Marriott Rewards. I think if you are into MVC, getting to Executive or Presidential is an easy way to achieve hotel status.

You will never get credit for any overlap stays (unless they make an error).

What about the credit card spending? If statement close by 12/19, will the 2 night credit post by end of this year or next January?

I have a reservation booked over New Year's at GV - 29th through the 2nd. Do the nights split across two different years or does everything roll into the year you checkout?

I'm in the same boat. I have 47 nights this year and have a reservation for Dec 29th in Atlanta and will check into Marriott's Surfwatch for 7 nights starting December 30th. Hopefully the 3 nights will post this year and get me to 50

I had an overlap last year at Grand Vista on a TP. It was from 12/26/17 to 01/02/18.

My nights posted was all messed up. They gave me 1 night for 2017 and 6 nights for 2018. I didn't bother fixing because I had already hit 50 for 2017 and it was better to have them go into 2018 anyway.

I'm at 74 nights. One short! But I'm really not sure how big of a deal it is beside the "suite certificates." We actually expect to travel less next year anyway.

I wonder if they "really" deny the next tier over one night?

They'll likely carry your current status over to next year anyway though with the new system it is a little more uncertain. I probably would try to get it if I were that close.

For 75 nights, you can choose a free night at hotel worth up to 40k points. That might make it worthwhile to do a mattress run for that last night.

My wife and I each chose 5 SNA(50 nights) and 1 free night (75 nights). Will be using the free nights for a couple of days in vancouver prior to our Alaskan cruise. Also applied 2 SNA to see if we get it. Love the fact that we are saving almost $600 for doing nothing different than staying at mvc properties.

I have 71 nights so far. In past years anything over 65 got me the platnium status. I was doubtful if I would be given the night status this year but a seven night stay starting Sunday makes it unnecessary.

NONE! Looking for a good trader to purchase.
Are you guys talking about regular Marriott Rewards status... or is this specific to Marriott Vacation Club? I'm "Platinum Elite" and the next tier is 75 nights, "Platinum Plus Elite"

I don't think I've been offered any of the things people have mentioned (suite upgrades). I just got 1 free night up to 35k for having the Marriott Premier Plus Visa

Platinum Premier is the Marriott Rewards Elite status level above Platinum and these are the respective benefits you should receive.

I was offered the choice of two Annual Choice Benefits because I had 91 nights. I chose two 5N suite upgrades for 10N total. I am Platinum Premier Elite because I am Presidential in MVC.

If you are Platinum Premier Elite, would you still be offered the Annual Choice Benefits just because you have this status or do you also need to get at least 50 and 75 nights to get 1 and 2 Annual Choice Benefits?

From the t&c you would have to stay 50 & 75 nights to get the awards.

Yes, if you sign in to your account and click overview, you will see the option to select your benefit once you have triggered this by staying 50 then 75 nights

Stay more — get rewarded.

The more you stay, the more benefits you earn. Once you stay at least 50 eligible nights, you'll get to choose one of these Annual Choice Benefits:

  • Five Suite Night Awards™
  • The gift of Silver Elite status for a friend or family member
  • Five Elite Night Credits
  • $100 (USD) donation to UNICEF
  • 40% off your favorite hotel bed
Continue to stay and reach 75 eligible nights, and you'll get to make an additional selection with the added options of a Free Night Award or the opportunity to gift Gold Elite status.

If you've already reached 50 eligible nights, sign in now to choose your benefit.

And if you haven't reached 50 eligible nights, keep booking. We'll notify you once you're eligible to select an Annual Choice Benefit.
