Wow! Quite a move! Do you miss any of your Long Island family and friends?

We go back to NY every other year for a family and friends visit. Our family comes to visit us here as does many of our friends so it all works out well. We were back in September and cannot believe how much worse the traffic has become year over year.

I think it was always bad. Just more apparent being you have been away from it and now it’s not your norm.

I go back to NY often and always think how did I live here. Nice to visit but glad I don’t live there anymore.

Yes- it is crazy down there with the traffic. We were down there last Thanksgiving and I am happy not to have had to go back down since!

Traveling suburban streets between our house and my parents to pick them up for dinner on Thanksgiving was a real eye opener -- no traffic! Streets were wide open and it felt like everyone was staying in that day. Our surface streets are basically heavy traffic all day long from 7am to 10 pm. There is really no such thing as doing chores during the week to stay out of weekend traffic -- I'm as likely to have to go around twice to find a parking spot at the grocery store on a Tuesday as on a weekend day.

To OP: I was floored at how dead Marco Island is in the August timeframe. Almost nothing is open and it was depressing. I'm sure it is much nicer in the winter when all the snow birds show up and shops and restaurants are open.

Ideal time to go to Marco Island is November to April. August I would suggest Captiva, very doable trade and being all the timeshares are in the south sea resort, more people, more happening. I was in Captiva in august and had a good time.

I actually did five days at Crystal Shores and 3 days on Captiva during the same trip. Had a great time on Captiva, and wouldn't return to Crystal Shores. Many better Marriott timeshare destinations IMO. Fun to do the shelling thing though.

Haha, lots of places. I have traveled mostly in the USA, Canada, Mexico and the Carribean Islands. Only once in my life overseas.

My sister says my traveling experiences are too limited as her vacations are mostly overseas. She thinks the places I go are boring but then again she can’t understand why I wanted to retire young in life too.

Everyone has different views on what great vacations are. I just know I am a happy vacationer, at least most of the time.

I was the other week at Marco Island. One week at Sunrise Bay & Club Resort, the second at Surf Club .

I went to check out Crystal Shores. I traded into Crystal for my daughters school break. I actually own at Surf Club for the week I traded into Crystal Shores. Some will call me crazy but I wish I kept my Surf Club week. I didn’t really like Crystal Shores as much as I thought I would.

As a trade in using another week it would be ok but I now know if I don’t have a room with a view I will be saying I should have kept my week at Surf Club.

I can’t pinpoint exactly what I didn’t like but to me it was just missing something. I think Lots of everything but lacked the warmth other Marriotts have. Maybe when I actually stay I will say this is the best place ever.

Bingo on Crystal Shores. It was somewhat plain and nondescript to me. You put an enormous number of units on a small footprint with small pools and no real areas to spread out and you get a busy feel that has to end up on the beach. Nothing much within walking distance either. Contrast that with Ocean Point, Aruba, or anything in Hilton Head and you get that feeling. That said, it had by far the best lanai of anywhere I've ever been. Huge with great lounge furniture.

This is a great post. If we were to move we like Sebastian, FL and DalKey, Ireland. We have timeshares in both locations so we behave like locals when there. Also owning multiple weeks at different timeshares makes it possible to visit areas that are homey to us and still stay in our house in Central Florida.
I have always liked where I lived, (with one exception )but loving my home now makes up for the one place I hated. I had no choice because I lived there as a teenager. My parents eventually moved from that house, but it never felt like home to me.
I’m appreciative of the life I live now with my DH and kids.
