Hello everyone,

I currently have 2 Tier 1-3 7 night Air & Hotel travel certs. Is it possible to cancel the certs? If so, would I be refunded all of the MR points excluding the 240,000 that went to United? Is it best to wait to cancel after Sept 18th? What’s the best phone # to call?

Thanks everyone,

Tom

It isn't a good option. They won't refund you the points value of the cert. They will convert the transaction to a points to miles transaction which is close to a 3 MR point to 1 air mile ratio. Then refund you the difference. Expect to get few if any points back from the hotel certificate.

As dioxide45 said, since the majority of the value of a TP is in the airline miles, you would get very few points back by just cancelling the hotel portion of the TP. Certainly nothing like simply taking the cost of the TP less the miles that went to the airline.

Can you still cancel the reservation at the hotel where the original reservation was made and use the certificate at a different location and at a different time?

Yes, but it will now be based on the new hotel categories.
