I just got our welcome e-mail. Are the 3 Buffets decent? Per the e-mail you get a discount if you book prior to arrival. Besides the daily breakfast buffet ( which I didn't book), they have a BBQ, a Carnival, and an Italian buffet. Are they worth doing?

We will be there for 2 weeks so with the discount the prices range from $22.95 to $25.50 per person. I know Aruba has good food outside the resort but for those days we don't want to leave the resort or for the convenience factor is the buffet a good option?

The breakfast buffet is $17 but I always make breakfast so we don't plan on using this buffet.

It's food and it's tasty, and it's worth about $18 in my mind. You are paying a bit of a convenience fee.

I would much rather pay $40 at La Vista at the Marriott next door for a real buffet, especially on Saturday night which is grilled Lobster night (costs a bit more).

I agree with Wally. Although you said you cook breakfast, the La Vista breakfast buffet is especially good and offers a lot of options - we go there at least half of the mornings. On the days you don't want to leave the property, while the dinner buffet is also good at La Vista, try the restaurant Atardi on the beach right in front of the hotel portion. You'll be sitting at a table on the sand, great sunset view, and a 2 minute walk from the Surf Club.

IMHO the buffets are mediocre at best, disappointing at worst. A ten-minute walk brings you to lots of very nice places to eat, the only upside I see in eating there is saving those steps. The place on the beach is nice, close and has a great view. A cab ride gets you to some really great places to eat, especially El Gaucho Argentine Grill.

We will have SUV the whole 2 weeks, we can certainly drive or walk to other options.

Check out Linda’s Dutch pancakes for breakfast. We make it a stop one morning every year during our visit to the Surf club.

We have been going to Aruba for years and never do the buffets, either at the Surf Club or La Vista. However, last year we did book the Carnival and it was fun. I believe it included a drink or two, the buffet, and the show. The food was okay, not gourmet fare, but the Carnival costumes and dancers made it worthwhile. BTW .... if you haven't tried Eduardo's Beach Shack, behind Playa Linda, stop by and pick up one of the acai bowls, filled with fresh fruit, granola, etc. Mouthwatering!
