So far, for me, nothing. Rather surprising, really. For the past several weeks I've been adding things to a watch list hoping they might go on sale. Odd things, I s'pose: Veterinary Stethoscope (specific brand), Henna Hair Coloring kit (specific brand), portable evaporative cooler (not specific), books, equine dietary supplements, fly control systems and a few solar gadgets. Not one item saw a special Prime-Day Discount.

Sure, I found a couple pair of western boots that I might enjoy ... but other than dirt, there is nothing wrong with the pair I bought from this sale in 2016. I wear those boots nearly every day ... love them.

But this year ... I've run some searches, clicked some links but often end up on "Error" pages. I've met quite a few Amazon Dogs on these error pages ... but not finding anything, so far, that screams, "You need this! now!"

How are you faring?

Last year we talked about the Segways some ... they are on sale again this year. If I lived in the city ... I might seriously consider one.

A coworker of mine said the page crashed at 3pm EST.

Agree. I had a number of items I was watching and nothing is on sale. Prime Day #Fail

But I didn't have high hopes because I found the last two years to be nothing-burgers as well.

Lots of overpriced semi-useless stuff.

A few crashes when clicking on items.

A waste of time for me.

Cheers

OK, so we all agree on the Amazon Dogs (crashes). How interesting ... I guess site traffic is high.

Anybody know about the Amazon Firestick? I have a TV in a guest bedroom that has no cable connection. I tried using a Roku box, but it's a hassle. For their Prime Day, Amazon is showing their Firestick with Alexa for $20. I'm tempted. Would that give me the ability for guests to see anything, or is this a waste of money?

Dave,

My experience with the firestick is that it has limited reception range and not a lot of processing power. Depending on how far the stick is from your access point you might have a decent performance but the firestick seems slow and sluggish compared to the Amazon Fire.

Ok, I'm confused. I thought an Amazon Fire was a tablet? The Firestick is a gadget that does streaming on a TV via Wifi (which I have.) Am I missing something?

Thanks. One last question: Is your Firestick a recent version? This one says it has Alexa support, and they claim it's super fast and whatever. (Don't they always?) I have a spare Echo Dot, and this supposedly works with that. I also have Comcast's Xfinity streaming, and I'm wondering if this would work with that?

I may order it and give it a try. I can always return it, right? For $20, there isn't a lot of risk. :)

We have a couple of FireSticks in our guest bedrooms. They work OK, but we like the Roku better. We took one on vacation a couple of uears ago, but the WIFI was so slow that we did not have great luck.

I use the FireTV daily on my main tv and we have Firestix that we take on vacations. We love them. The interface is very easy to use. We have PlayStation Vue and that works on them where ever we go. So working the tv is the same no matter where we go. I haven’t been anywhere where the WiFi is to slow to run it but I have only taken it to about 10 places. I think it’s worth a try for you for $20.

Dave,
I believe mine is about a year old (give or take a bit). I would have to believe it is NOT the latest model so I would hope there have been improvements.

Clearly Amazon's web server is not up to the demand today. More puppies...

I ordered the Firestick. I'm married to a Costco Refund Cashier, so my life is all about returns. If the Firestick doesn't work to my satisfaction, Amazon will get it back. Easy breezy.

But not quite as easy as a Costco return!
It is the 'pack it up'step that keeps me from being much of an online shopper.

I hear that! I learned a long time ago to save the box things come in, and to open it carefully, so I can send it back. I have a packing tape gun. Print a shipping label on my laser printer, slap it on the box, and drop it by wherever it's being dropped on my way to work. That's about as easy as I know how to do it. I am less likely to do it with large items, but smaller things? I can do it. :)

I love the Roku we got from Costco and would only get that one for travel. The Firestick I gave to my stepdad because he is watching Suits right now and enjoying during those hot summer afternoons here in Denver.

If it has not already been mentioned here, you can check item price history of Amazon products at https://camelcamelcamel.com
to see if today's price is really a deal....

This, of course, assumes the Amazon website will stay up at all...

Wow.

We tried probably 10 different times from 3PM until now, almost the entire time, in our area, got error pages, mobile app and web. So, we were not able to purchase anything. Heck, we couldn't look at anything. Since I will be out most all Tuesday and Wednesday, I guess their problem becomes my problem. Very Disappointed. I guess I will attempt to whine to them.
