Some of the Best Amtrak Train Routes

"Traveling by train can be a lost art form in today's travel world, but it shouldn't be overlooked as a way to travel. We're all in such a rush to get from point A to point B that we forget that soaking in the adventure along the way can be just as wonderful as the actual destination. Train travel allows us to take our time, enjoy the ride, and experience incredible scenery along the way. Here are the best Amtrak train routes that you should consider adding to your bucket list..."

I love train travel and use Amtrak often. For longer trips you either love it or hate it.

The Lake Shore Limited from NYC to Chicago was very nice during leaf season. There are other leaf viewing routes I'd be very interested in taking, as well.

I recommend people only plan for one overnight on a train, as it isn't truly comfortable. It's not awful, though, and the food is surprisingly good. I did Florida to Denver and back a few years ago, which was a good trip, but we were much happier on the way back, when we broke up the return journey with overnights in Chicago and NYC.

We were glad to get a real shower at the resort, when we arrived in San Francisco after our Zephyr trip in May a few years ago. Next trip is going to be great. We will be doing the entire west coast. There is a bus ride connection for 3.5 hours. I would love to break up our trip with an overnight at a hotel, if I could. I will have to call and ask about that. We will have a bedroom and bathroom, but I doubt I will want to shower in there, and we won't sleep well on those beds. The food is good.
