I just want a 2nd opinion (haha):

OK, I've used all 2018 points. I have like 7500 2019 point and my full allotment of 2020 points.

Correct me if I'm wrong:

If I book (in 2018) stays for 2019, obviously it'll use my 2019 points (borrowing them).
BUT:

If I book "more" than that, it'll still pull from 2020 points yes? Because it's for a 2019 reservation?

Club points, not home reservations.

No borrowing since the points are already in the same year as your stay.
When you make the booking matters not.

Yes.

It is all about when the points come from and when the reservation is. The oldest points are used first. At least this is how i think it works.

1) If I have 5000 points left in 2018 and use them to book Mar 2019 and then cancel in Jan 2019, there is nowhere for the points to go back. I lose them all.

2) If I have 5000 points left in 2018 and rescue them (for a fee, or course) to 2019 then use them to book Mar 2019 then cancel before 30 days out, I keep all of the points and they go back to the year the came from. And a 2019 reservation can only be changed to 2019 - you cannot try to reuse it for a short trip later in 2018.

3) If I book a 2019 reservation with 2019 and 2020 points then cancel, they points go back to the year they came from.

Hopefully this makes sense. Some folks keep points stashed (like I do) and rescue any points used for a reservation the next year BEFORE the reservation is made, then you don't have any worries. The only thing is points can only be rescued once - so they all have to be used the next year.

Number 1 is not possible, you cant make a 2019 HGVC reservation with 2018 points, it will use 2019 or 2020 if needed. The only way to use 2018 is #2 SAVE (Rescue is no longer used).

You can use 2018 points for 2019 RCI reservation without paying the deposit fee. RCI uses oldest points first.

As Dave said... Umpossible for HGVC.
You can't book a stay in 2019 w-2018 points unless you Save them first.
If you cancel, they go back to 2019 as Saved ponts.

2) If I have 5000 points left in 2018 and [Save] them (for a fee, or course) to 2019 then use them to book Mar 2019 then cancel before 30 days out, I keep all of the points and they go back to the year the came from.

They return to 2019 as Saved points. Once Saved, always Saved.
However, they can be borrowed back for a new 2018 booking.

3) If I book a 2019 reservation with 2019 and 2020 points then cancel, the points go back to the year they came from.

This is true.
