Hello,

I was wondering if you exchange your unit and then you can't go--you want to cancel do you get back all the TPUs?

Thank you

Depending on when your exchange dates are, you can get some of your TPU'S back, but not your exchange fee. Start the cancellation process to see how many TPU's will be returned.

I had to do a last-minute cancellation due to a family emergency last week, and I paid $99 to get all 30 TPUs back. No refund on the exchange fee though. I am hoping to get that back through Chase Sapphire Reserve trip cancellation insurance.

Jackio, did you buy points protection up front or just pay the fee when you canceled? I sometimes buy it up front but if I don't have to, and then only pay the fee when canceling, that would be much better. I hate wasting money. Your Chase card would probably cover that fee as well.

The only time RCI refunded my exchange fee was when we had to cancel a last-minute trip because my mother-in-law was hospitalized and then went into hospice. She died a week before our trip. I hadn't bought points protection or even travel insurance for the trip when I normally get it for every trip. RCI, Jet Blue and even Ticketmaster (we had $2k worth of US Open tennis tix that they actually refunded since a death was the reason we couldn't go) were amazing. All of them had policies that allowed for no penalty if a family member dies.

I didn’t buy points protection, and I figured the Chase card would cover the rest if need be. Then when I went to cancel, they offered me the points back for $99. I figured the TPUs cost me more than that, so I went for it. My condolences on your mother-in-law.
