We are eagerly looking forward to our first stay at Summit Watch (checking in tomorrow!) and Ocean Pointe (in about a month) since buying our resale weeks this Fall.

Next year we are going to be renting out some of our weeks, and using others. Some comments in another thread about Friday check ins disappearing from newly released online inventory first, followed by Saturday and then Sunday, raised a question in my mind...

Is there a particular check in day (Friday vs Saturday vs Sunday) that is generally more desirable and easier to rent out than the others? I would've assumed Saturday is the most in demand, but thought you all might have more experience with this.

Thanks for any advice!

I can only speak for Aruba and Kauai Marriott properties and Saturday, Sunday in that order have always been the best rent days for me.

To the OP, you may be referring to my post about Maui Ocean Club, where last Thursday I posted that when I was shopping the system in preparation for actually booking next week, I saw Friday inventory go away first, followed by Saturday, and then Sunday.

Just remember that there are two data elements that impact how fast the day disappears - demand is one, but supply is the other. Marriott probably doesn't allocate the same number of units to each check-in day. Like you suggested, I would think Saturday is the most popular check-in day, so I would expect for any given week, Marriott would designate more units for Saturday check-in than Friday or Sunday. So, if there were 50 units of a given category/view/size available for a given week, and there were Friday, Saturday, and Sunday check-in options, they might allocate 10 units to Friday, 25 to Saturday, and 15 to Sunday. But if demand for Friday was little greater than projected, it's possible Friday could be booked-up first, even though it is overall the lowest demand check-in day of the three.

I’m curious. Why would MVC not allocate the same number for Fri/Sat/Sunday? I never really thought they wouldn’t be even, but maybe you are correct. Is there some benefit to them from a check-in or check-out view? Or benefit from DC Pts view eventually ( Fri/Sat nights cost more pts than Sunday)?

When we bought our first Marriott back in 2004, we were told 25% on Friday, 50% on Saturday, and 25% for Sunday. Patrick

I clearly have no inside information to be sure that's what they do, but it would make sense to me if they are trying to balance supply with demand, which should be the goal of every lodging operator in order to make sure that your property is at the highest possible occupancy. It does no good to have more check-in days allocated to Friday, for instance, than the demand will support. If there is more demand for Saturday check-in, I would think they would want to have more inventory available for that check-in so as to better balance supply with demand.

Interesting. This wouldn’t surprise me and may actually make sense. Saturday’s always tend to be busier check-in and check-out dates, perhaps because they have double the number in comparison to Fri/Sun. For my weeks, Sat check-in is almost always first to go even with higher supply from MVC perhaps. Shows demand for Sat check-ins I guess.

Your logic makes sense. Only reason I could see against it, would be to balance out check-ins across all 3 days to make the check-in / check-out experience more efficient vs cramming twice as many into Saturday, cleaning twice as many rooms, etc. However, the logic of mapping supply to demand (Sat preferred by most) seems to make more sense though.

My understanding is similar to that posted here. I have been told 40% Saturday for GO but don't know for sure if that's the breakdown. I have had a lot of corroboration over the years that Saturday is the most popular day plus a lot of reservation efforts where Friday and Sunday was available but not Saturday.

When you are talking about rental demand, it is definitely: 1) Saturday, 2) Sunday, 3) Friday.

If the reservation starts on Friday, that requires you to take an extra day off from work, or take your kids out of school a day early, to leave on Friday.

If the reservation starts/ends on Sunday, you may arrive home so late on Sunday night/Monday morning that you have to take Monday off.

Saturday lines up with a 1 week vacation from school/work the best, and that is why resorts allot more days for Saturday check-in - that is where the most demand is.

Thanks for all the input everyone! Sounds like the general consensus is that Saturday is preferred, but the discussion about the uneven distribution of check in days is interesting as well. When I check into Summit Watch tomorrow I'll ask them what their breakdown of Fri/Sat/Sun check-ins is.

We have checked in on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday is good if we are driving to a resort. Get to spend a whole weekend. Sunday is kinda off setting as we generally like to be already at the resort on Sunday mornings. Saturday works if we travel by air getting in in the afternoon makes a comfortable evening to shop and make dinner and unwind after traveling.
Since it’s just us two mostly, we can be flexible. What do others think?
