That leaves the single-week owners in the unfortunate, and what I consider unfair, position of knowing that if they visit in the winter they don't have a chance of getting a good placement.

As a single week Platinum owner, I resisted posting my standard reply that it has been difficult, if not impossible to reserve a mid summer week. But the quoted comment borders on confusing if not ridiculous. First, based on the large number of units -- and of those, how many would be considered an unsatisfactory location? Second, how many multiple week owners are in the position of requesting a repeat booking in their favorite location? Certainly not enough to deprive other owners a nice spot. There is a major (known) flaw in the Platinum booking system at this resort, but I can't imagine the problem described being serious.

Okay. So, knock on wood, cross fingers, do all the things that one must to not have a jinx. We are owners at NCV. We go in the summer, always have. We always get our preference for location. Sure, I'd like that villa where the owners hang the hummingbird feeder because obviously they spend lots and lots of time at the resort and can do this from the exposed beam patio cover that I have never had the privilege to occupy.... but, we love what we get and we really enjoy what we have (had since prior to construction.) Short of living in Newport Coast, this is the greatest place.

We have traded into NCV through II several times and while we did not get the beat placements, we still had decent views. I do believe being a Marriott owner helps, even though we traded in.

Same here. We traded in twice (got June both times). I always got my requirements met (near pool. near fitness center, etc.) and always had a decent or ok view. I know people who go here frequently mention certain buildings for the best views, but the buildings are so far away from the water I doubt even the best views are what I would consider 'great views'. Both times I got a villa that was fairly close to the main lobby and I was very happy with that.

Ok, I thought so. You can trade into Newport using your two weeks, but you have to own Newport to book it directly.
And you'd need 2 weeks there at Newport to do consecutive weeks.

If you were remotely considering buying points to use there, then you'll be happy to know you can buy resale weeks
there far cheaper .....look at Redweek.com to see good prices as I mentioned in a previous post.
One platinum week listed for $9,000 by a great agent, very honest and they have good prices on their listings,
bought one myself.

Cheaper than staying across the street too! Pelican Hill's one or two nights in a small hotel room is the same as our maint. fee for a 2 bedroom for 7 nights :).

I stayed there three times (TUG Distressed, II Exchange, II Getaway) in 2014/15, Summer/Fall/Winter. Not a Marriott owner but requested the top buildings near the salt pool and got good locations every time. If you want to look at the ocean go down to the beach or turn on the camera channel on the television.

I can see where people that have kids would want near the main pool for all the activities. Loved the free shuttle to Crystal Cove and Laguna Beach. Loved it so much we moved 20 minutes away in June of 15. Now we are always at the beach from Huntington to Laguna.

Congratulations, I can one day see myself snow birding or moving to that area also.

Yes the weather here over on this Thanksgiving weekend was fabulous. Wore shorts all weekend. Thursday, Friday and Saturday low 90's and I think San Diego had a record of 99 on one of those days. On Thanksgiving it was so warm we ran the AC all day and no one wanted to go outside and sit by the pool. I live about 12 miles from the resort. We stayed at the resort during August on a last minute trade. Took the grandkids and their parents. We all loved it and stayed at the resort the entire time since we already live in this area.
