Has anyone bought JUST a Turbotax Download (no Disc)?

I use Turbotax for my Taxes. I like it, and need to buy it pretty soon.

When I 'google' prices for it, some are about $24, others run $38-$60.

The $24 items are only a DOWNLOAD (you don't get sent a Disc).

Has anyone used any of these companies that only send a Download---is it safe, etc?

I've used the download only version of turbo tax for a few years, but I buy the premiere version that cost a little bit more. I've never had any issues with this version.

I like the disc, so I printed out the prices from Amazon ($32.99 for a disc) and brought it to Staples. They matched the price.

I have used Tax Act for many years and find it more user friendly than Turbo Tax. I just do it online, submit it electronically and print out a copy. Done. Easy Peasy.

Like others, I use TaxAct online...
User-friendly, cheaper, and imports from last-year w/o any fuss.

The downloads are fine. I put them in a separate folder on Google Drive so I can't lose them, which I often did with the discs.

Downloading tax software, sans the disk, is the norm these days. Even tax practioners with more expensive software get their product via download, which includes all updates (and there are many in a season). To do all of that on disk becomes expensive and unwieldy.

As suggested above, keep the download on a cloud or external drive and store the activation codes in a password keeper or easily retrievalble location. As long as the purchase is coming from a known, secure site, there is little reason to be concerned about the download itself.

I have used Turbo Tax every year starting in the late 90s. In the beginning I bought the disc but got tired of having to download updates. For the last 5 or 6 years I have used the account I set up on the Turbo Tax website and log in as necessary. I much prefer this. Sure, Turbo Tax has my information (so does the IRS) but I don't care.
