Hello..a couple of questions regarding points.

We have 720 points remaining in our 2016 bucket...I have read several threads about "saving" "rescuing" and "transferring" these points but am still confused.

If I want to use the 720 in 2017, I assume I must transfer them but am not sure whether to transfer them: HGVC or RCI...is there even anywhere to go with 720 points? Can we just keep them and transfer them again next year to our 2018 trip?

Number next: We are combining 2017 and 2018 points for a 2018 trip...do we need to move these to our 2018 bucket? If so, when? We will be making our 2018 reservation sometime in 2017.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...thanks so much.

You may want to look at this old thread which basically had a similar question about saving points (http://tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=246632). You can saving your current year points at anytime during the year to next year, but those points must be used before the next of the following year (or you will lose them. If you saved 720 points to following 2017 year, then those points must be used before the end of year 2017.) Any "club" reservation made in 2016/2017 will use those points first. This does require a fee to save points to the following year (This month I believe the fee is $74/normally $84).

In year 2018, you can borrow from year 2019 points for free ("club" reservation only). That may be your best option for that special reservation.

As for your RCI part, I will let someone else address. I personally like using all of my points in the Hilton system with HGVC or Fiesta Americana. I know that many also like using RCI.

I hope that I have helped.

You need to "save" your 2016 points (it used to be called "rescue").
There's a $10 discount on the fee if you do it by 10/31.

Then you can use them for a HGVC stay in 2017, or for RCI in 2017+2018.
If you "deposit to the RCI program," you are limited to using them for RCI.
-- AFAIK, no good reason to do that.

In 2017, you cannot "save" them again for an HGVC stay in 2018.
But you can still book an RCI stay or "deposit to RCI" for a 2018 stay.

[Clear as mud?]

It is ALWAYS cheaper to borrow ($0) than to rescue/save ($94 or $84 in October).

So borrow away....

In that situation I would "deposit" my 2017 points into 2018. With the exception of borrowing from the following year, your points always need to allocated the the year of use, it does not matter when you make the reservation.

Naturally there is a fee to Deposit your points into a future year, but its a flat fee. So you might as well just deposit all of your 2017 points into 2018 and then borrow them back if you decide to travel in 2017.

Hope that makes sense.

Thank you everyone....I had forgotten about this until I got the TUG newsletter via email today. I deposited the '17 points into '18 account this afternoon for $76....whew! Thanks TUG!

I need to correct what I said above about using "saved" points for RCI.

I was recently reminded "saved" points "cannot used for RCI beyond the year to which saved.
To use points saved to 2017 for an RCI stay in 2018, they must first be deposited to RCI.
