Good evening everyone!

We are using our timeshare for the first time this week. A couple of days before I left, we got a call from the resort telling me about the "owner update" and if we attended, they would give us $175.

We bought resale and I know that this is an attempt to sell me more of what we already have...are they any tips or recommendations anyone can suggest to move us along quicker....I noted that the paper I signed originally said a "90-120" minute presentation and I had them change it to the "60" minutes they told me on the phone.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

-Don't show any interest in buying more at all, don't ask any questions.
-Tell them you bought resale and have enough points or will be buying resale if you add any more
-It doesn't hurt to tell them you learned how to get the most of your ownership by joining and reading TUG.
-Be prepared for the second pitch after the first guy gives up. They will offer you 7000 one time VIP points for $1695, these are like bonus points, they have an expiration and put you on the hook to attend another sales "update".

Do not give them your cell number or answer the telephone wants you have check into the room. Remember you are on vacation.
Read the above post and follow it.

Pick out a watering hole to which you can retreat and decompress after having your ears boxed for an hour.

Thanks so much....I am going to set my phone alarm when we start and let them know the clock is ticking. If we get to 60 minutes, when the alarm goes off, we will stand, politely thank them and ask for our $175.

$175 cash is more than they normally offer. Is that right, or is it $175 worth of food credit, or comps at a casino.

Most of the time, they don't know that you bought resale until you tell them. After they learn that and realize you are only looking to spend $1 per point or less, the update is over pretty fast.

I would pay $175 to NOT have to go to an owner's update!

The VIP package is not a bad deal, though you will have to sit through another presentation... The other issue is that it is not really 7000 points, even though they pitch it that way. Its an offer for up to 7 nights at a resort, or possibly two shorter stays. I bought one last year planning to use it Kings Land, when i went to book i discovered you can request, but can't confirm Phase I / Phase II or even standard / Plus / Premium rooms..

As for getting out of the presentations, i usually just say that i am currently a bit stretched, helping to support my mother, and recent college grad son and family comes first.. The time i used buy resale as a better option the guy started in with all the value in being Elite, etc... I have not found a HGVC salesperson that is enough of a jerk to argue that i should buy a T/S instead of supporting family..

As soon as you sit down, let them you that you bought your HGVC timeshare resale, saved a ton of money, and would only buy any future TS resale. If it's anything like HHV, it will totally piss them off. They know they can't upgrade your TS and that you won't buy anything new from HGVC: your wasting their time because they need to make their sales quota. They will ask you why you agreed to attend the update, so tell them flat out that you wanted to hear the last HGVC news/updates and that you want your $175: you'll probably be out in 5 minutes.

Agreed. I wouldn't go out of my way to insult the salesperson, telling them the clock is ticking and so forth. I like the idea of mentioning the resale purchase, in the context of that being the only way you could afford the purchase, even though it meant forgoing the extra benefits of making the developer purchase at a developer price.

Even salespeople are human, so why not give them an easy way to mark you down as a no-sale....

It's not true that hgvc can't upgrade if you bought resale.

We just attended a presentation and they offered to buy back our resale unit at full price which is more than 5 times what we originally paid.

Just behave politely, if you catch the rep in anything untrue just correct him, I bet he would stop telling lies asap.

We did this and the fun part was that I knew more about his product than he did - except for new locations ofc.

That day the rep learned something new about his product, I didn't but I got 250$ In rewards. Those we used for dining in NYC.

A while back, they offered to upgrade my resale with full-retail credit for my "used" TS.
The credit is a nice bit of change, but paying full-freight for a new one meant laying out 3x as much.
Far more than I could buy it for resale. No thanks.

I would't say that informing the person that signs you up for the presentation or the sales rep, that you purchased your HGVC TS on resale market - insulting, unless you make it insulting, I'd say it'd being upfront and honest. To lie about why you won't purchase a TS from the agent is lying and deceitful, even if it is a TS agent and company.

It seems this a norm for Hilton TS? I have been in 2 of their resorts and each time I get a call to invite me to an update which I have decline twice. I have others TS and never was bother until I get to the "parking permit " desk

Are asking if its common for HGVC resorts to call in advance to schedule the update? Based my experience, i would say yes. It does not happen every-time we stay, but frequently they do call and try and schedule.

They used to call me, but using caller ID, I ducked several of their calls.
Apparently, I'm now on their "naughty" list, and no more calls...
That's fine by me.

It shouldn't be hard to get on the naughty list. We would get calls all the time or requests to attend presentations when we checked in to get our welcoming gift. However, now that they know we purchased resale, and that information is in the HGVC computer system, we never get bothered but we do get our welcome gift.

At times someone who doesn't know us tries to get us to take a presentation. We tell them ahead of time that we can't go and get a gift. They are so commission oriented that they call up some office and try to get us in but they can't.

At check-in, they give you a card for a free gift, a blue Hilton bag. When you go to redeem the card, they hit you up for an owners update: NO. The bag comes in handy, because many stores here on the Islands are now bag-free, paper or plastic.

I've never been asked to attend an owner's meeting.

Thank your lucky stars... You haven't missed anything that isn't worth missing.

Update: We were in and out in less than 60-minutes...we were very casual and spent the first 20 minutes just talking about HGVC in general...thanks to this website, I knew as much as she did, gently turned the tables and started asking her questions...soon, we were being politely hustled out the door. We got our gift card and were on our way by 10am to enjoy the rest of the day...thanks everyone!

It was a gift card....we used it happily within 24 hours!

I've never been asked to attend an owner's meeting.
Wow. We just spent 3 weeks in HGVC TS's in Waikoloa, Hawaii, and were asked numerous times about attending an owners update. I got a studio at the Flamingo for 4-nites over this new years for a friend and was asked several times about attending an owners update, including several times at check-in on Thursday. Booked 3-nites at the Elara and same story, including a couple of calls on my cell phone about attending an owners update. I own a resale at the affiliate Bay Club, which they know, but yet they are hitting me pretty hard.
