Hello,
A couple years ago I remember someone posting on TUG that there is a way via RCI app to find out a unit number linked to a reservation (if preassigned). Maybe it was somewhere different than their app. I have replaced my phone a few times in between and can't remember where I had it. I have the RCI app on my current phone but it is not showing a unit number for any of the places I am looking at (including one on hold and two confirmed). Please tell me again how to find this out. I tried calling RCI but they are closed Sundays now and if I could find out on my own, life would be a little easier :D.
Thanks!!

If it is pre-assigned, it has always been printed on my confirmations.

If not pre-assigned, it just shows the size unit. The only way that I have been able to find out the unit number prior to confirmation is to call RCI. I would do just about anything to avoid calling RCi. However, because of issues with my account that they haven't been able to correct in two years, I find I have to call more than I prefer.

If there is another way, it would be great to know.

You used to be able to tell on the app for weeks reservations at fixed week/unit resorts. The app no longer gives this info. I don't know if they will give you the info when you call. More and more resorts are taking control of inventory to the point where even at fixed week, fixed unit resorts they may or may not assign you in the actual deposited unit. While they won't move fixed week/unit owners using their actual weeks, they will assign renters and exchangers if more than one is checking in/out on the same day into units that are more convenient to the resort vs strictly staying with the deposited unit. The whole point of not giving out the unit number is so exchangers can't complain that they are not getting the correct unit if they want that view/unit or complain and request another unit if they don't like it. Very small resorts with limited exchange activity on any given week will likely stick with the actual deposited unit.

I've gotten to the point where I assume as an exchanger, I will get the worst unit/view possible but ask for what I want nicely and hope for the best.

Thank you very much for the quick replies. Egret, your explanation makes sense why they took that feature away--darn! I'll call RCI tomorrow and see if they have any information available just because I love talking to them so much :wall: but I won't be surprised if they can't/won't tell me.

thanks again!!

I've done dozens of exchanges & have never been given a preassigned room/unit #. The units are always assigned by the resort a day or two in advance. JMHO.

I called RCI this morning and asked the question about a place I have on hold and a place that I was thinking about. She gave me both unit numbers supposedly assigned (which I was shocked). Both timeshare complexes are very small that I asked about--one has 25 units and the other has around 40. Now, I'm not saying that I am totally counting on them being accurate but I was surprised to even be given the numbers.

Sometimes, you just gotta call...Funny we're surprised when it's a positive call

Sometimes the unit number matters to me, sometimes just having the opportunity to stay at a particular resort through an exchange is the most important.

In 32 years of exchanging, we've only had one really bad exchange. There's been a couple that grew on us over the course of our week's stay. RCI makes me a bit crazy, but never enough to discontinue my membership. All in all, we've had great exchanges. But you have to be dedicated to your pursuit. :hi:

What RCI can give you if they will is the unit number deposited which does have meaning at fixed unit properties or often the unit code which may get you to where you know the view. with Marriott you can often figure out the view type from the Marriott (hotel) website one it's in your name.
