Quick question(s), with hopefully a simple answer(s):

We've booked a 1 BR+ at HHV Lagoon Tower for April. Because it's a "plus", will that ensure that we avoid the Dreaded Room 68 (and how high up are we likely to be with a 1 BR+)?

Thanks!

I would call three weeks before check in and ask for 1) highest floor possible 2) diamond head side and 3) not DR 68.

I don't think they will put you there because of the request and also you are using HGVC points. My only stay in DR 68 was because I exchanged in with RCI.

I believe Plus starts at the 8th floor for most rooms, but a couple are 5th floor.

You will love it - and I've even made my peace with DR 68, it's far forward and has spectacular balcony view.

Best,

Greg

Units 60 - 66 (Diamond Head)
3-23floor_plan2.jpg

Units 72 - 67 (Ilikai)

The 1 BR+ units are 61 (floors 9-23), 64 (floors 5-23), and 68 (floors 9-23).

I did a search for dreaded room 68 or DR 68 and didn't find anything which says why it's a dreaded room can you enlighten me or point me to a thread which explains it?

Thanks

Ian

From Greg's earlier thread

http://tugbbs.com/forums/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=1189049

Room 68 is smaller than the other 1BR's because it is next to the emergency stairwell (which encroaches on where the kitchen should be). Accordingly, they moved the kitchen over next to the bathroom, and stole space from both the bedroom and bathroom to wedge in the kitchen. It feels disjointed.

However, the view of the marina is beautiful and there isn't an adjacent balcony to partially block the view, since we are the furthest forward unit with a balcony. So there are advantages to the room. I wouldn't mind staying again in 68, but will still request the Diamond Head side next time because of the larger unit space, but also I suspect its view is beautiful also, from DougP's pictures.

I reiterate earlier comments, I'm really impressed with HHV. It was an easy walk to outstanding restaurants and yet is partly separated from the density of Waikiki. The pools are very nice and Waikiki itself is a great beach.

Best,

Greg

They may also put you in unit 70, the master suite of the 2BR Lockoff.

We were in that unit in Feb, even though we booked 1BR Plus.

Steve, thx for posting the link to the description of DR 68.

Best,

Greg

Good point, Greg.

If the studio portion of lock-off units 62/63 (floors 5-23) or 70/71 (floors 9-23) has been reserved, then the remaining portion becomes a 1 BR+.

Thanks for the info everyone! I'll be sure to call the resort a few weeks ahead. Either way, this will be a nice step up from our first visit in 2008...we had a studio overlooking the construction of the newest super pool. :-/

We'll be staying there week of April 13 at the Lagoon as well in a 1BR Plus.

Maybe we'll see you around if that's your week as well.

Hate to tell you but I have gotten room 68 at Lagoon tower using HGVC points. Anyone know what floors are standard 1br in the grand waikikian?
Also did an owners update yesterday. The hokulani units look great. Was told all 1br plus and premiere. Wow 6200 and 8400 for 1br units? The premier units will be the larger corner units. Also was told no difference in points between a unit on the 3rd floor or top floor. Best part was no almost no pressure from sales guy. Saw what I owned and tried to get me to buy in to get elite benefits. Was told over $200,000 for elite premier and I told him to save $69 for each reservation would take me forever to recoup my money. Then he basically gave up :hysterical::hysterical:!! Great sales tour.

Standard 1BRs are the first 11 floors on the Ala Moana side.

I have a layout that I can send you if you PM me your email.

Interesting about DR 68 on HGVC points....

Thanks!

And just my luck I get the lowest floor at GW. I got a 5th floor room. I know you can't get any lower than this. I get some bad luck with hhv. Only get high floors when I book the penthouse units.

A few years ago we got the dreaded room 68 but since it was our first stay at HHV we did not know any better and just assumed that the rooms were small. We loved the balcony and tended to eat most of our meals outdoors enjoying the view.

Follow-up question:

Are the beds in a Lagoon Tower 1BR+ all King size? (Or do you have to request that, as well?)

I assume that there are no dedicated studio's in the Lagoon Tower, they are all the studio lock-off sides of a 2-BDRM (like the Marriott lock-offs, one of which I own)?

http://kassy.parfe.jp/3-23floor_plan2.jpg

From the attached floor plan, I assume that the top looks toward Diamond Head and the bottom looks toward the Harbor.

I have one reservation for a Lagoon Towers 1-Bdrm and another reservation for a studio. Since I'm assuming that the the studio is the lock-off side of a 2-Bdrm, I'm assuming that I "might" be able to get a 2-Bdrm instead of two separate units (a 1-Bdrm + Studio). I hope - I hope - I hope :wall: Plus this way I could avoid room #68 ;)

Guess I find out in 12 days :D

Correct. The studios are all lock-offs. The ones next to the elevators have a king bed and loveseat sofabed with a view of the Iliki Hotel and partial view of the harbor. The ones on the opposite side have two queen or full beds and face the resort/Diamond Head.
