Can't take Tom Cruise seriously. Big bad guy, I dont think so, a whimp.. yes.

Whenever I think of him I see him jumping up and down on a couch on the Oprah show shouting out how much he loves katie Holmes, who subsequently got sick of him and dumped him.

He must think he still has star power. His film studio dumped him. If you have $10 extra bucks to spend watching him, sends it to me., I'll even send you a bag of popcorn. Butter not included.

Thanks to this thread

I have now discovered a new series to read . downloaded all 17 and I am on book #6 and I really like this series . I can't see Tom Cruise as reacher but then again I couldn't see Tyler Perry as Alex Cross :)

I've been reading these too- all because of this thread. It's good, light entertainment- very escapist revenge type fantasy. I agree that Tom Cruise is not Jack Reacher. The guy who played Thor would be closer to my idea of him (but a little older and with a hair cut). In the books he is a giant with fists "like turkeys" or "dinner plates"- not what you think about with Tom Cruise.

For those looking for another series: Definitely not a Jack Reacher, but oh, so good: Gabriel Allon in the series of books by Daniel Silva. Gabriel is an assassin for the Israeli Mossad. He is also a world famous art restorer--and he thinks. Silva wrote another short series (maybe 3 books) before he started with Gabriel, and the Gabriel books are absolutely outstanding. Book number 1 is The Kill Artist, #2 The English Assassin, #3 The Confessor, #4 Death in Vienna, #5 Prince of Fire, #6 The Messenger, #7 Secret Servant #8 Moscow Rules, #9 The Defector, #10 The Rembrant Affair, #11 Portrait of a Spy, #12 Fallen Angel--and there is a new one coming out this summer. You don't have to read them in order, but if you do, you'll get all the character nuances of Gabriel as he develops.

Silva's first three books are quite good also: #1 The Unlikely Spy (a stand alone book), #2 The Mark of the Assassin , #3 Marching Season. Both #2 and # 3 feature Michael Osbourne, who is also an interesting character.

Ooh! Thank you. I love the Jack Reachers, and Donna Leon, and Sharpe--in fact, there's nothing more comforting than a good series. I'll hop along to Amazon and try Daniel Silva right now.

about 5 books in myself, been doing the audiobooks vs reading...since the local public library has them all available!

I feel it takes me longer to listen, vs read though.

Poor Tiny Tom is getting some bad reviews here. So I looked up some stats:

20 of his 37 movies grossed over $100 million

Total box office gross is $3.213 billion

Average gross per movie is $105 million

Ranked as #1 on list of Hollywood's most powerful actors

http://www.statisticbrain.com/tom-cruise-statistics/

Personally I have enjoyed most of his movies that I've seen.

Give the guy a break Tuggers. :)

I like Tom Cruise, but Jack Reacher is a giant of a man, and he forces himself to smile when he hitchhikes, whereas Tom Cruise is known for his smile. He did okay in the role though.
