This is all correct if you use the a Wyndham rewards method of converting your points to Wyndham rewards to get the $50 for 10,000 Wyndham rewards points. It’s a $99 fee to convert your Club Wyndham points to Wyndham rewards points. I whole heartedly agree, it’s a terrible return.
You do not have to go through Wyndham rewards to use your points for maintenance fees. Wyndham has long had the program where you can convert your points to maintenance fees. See page 259 of the current directory. You can use this year’s points, however, there is a deadline. You cannot wait until the end of the year to do it, unless you’re VIP Platinum. Like the Wyndham rewards option, it’s a terrible return. It’s .0021 cents per point or $210 per 1,000 points. There is no $99 fee, but you do need a reservation transaction credit. If you’re out of those, it’ll cost you $29, because you have to call in to do the conversion. Reservation transaction credits cost $29 over the phone. The OP is better off trying to rent a reservation to a friend or family with those points. Even if they rent it out at a measly $4 per 1,000, it’s a better return then either program.
