I would read the Stickies comparing the various systems. There are also the Independents that trade into RCI or Interval.

I gave advice on another thread that I will give to you because it's my best trader. I will find the thread and provide a link. Myrtle Beach is in SC, just an FYI.

I would buy in Myrtle Beach, since there are 3 of you, and you should consider Sheraton Broadway Plantation, a two bedroom lock with fees of $1,204 total, so basically $600/week. You can deposit two bedrooms into II and get two weeks of vacation. It's the best thing we own and trade, and they are free here on TUG and on eBay.

Another option would be a 2 bedroom at the Marriott in Williamsburg, a lockoff unit, fees a little higher, I believe, but it cannot be had for free. The SBP is free.

The fees for Sheraton have not increased in 3 years. I assume we are in for a shocker next year or the year after, but you would never pay much more than $1,600/ yr (the amount you put in your OP) for two great vacations. $1204/ 2 = $602 + $209 exchange fee + 1/2 of the membership fee of $45. Each week $845.

Of course, there are other considerations involved, like II membership ($89/yr), and exchange fees of $169-$209, and upgrade fees, if you upgrade from the 1 to 2 bedroom ($118).

Thank you everyone!! I really appreciate all of your advice. I have a lot to learn. I need to do some research. All of your advice is great but some of it is over my head and I need to understand a few things. For example, even if I plan if I need to change my dates do to an emergency will I have an option to change even if I need to travel with in 30 to 60 days? I always thought that points were more flexible than weeks.

Each System has a points system so you will need to study.
Yes, you can cancel and try find availability but it could be difficult. Or you can trade into the exchange company and have extra time, up to 2yrs, to use your week. Or you can try to rent said week so you don’t lose out on the $$$.
We recently came back from an exchange via RCI. Have another in Sept.

Sheraton Broadway Plantation is extremely flexible. Even if you cancel a day ahead, you can book another date ahead, if it's available, or you can bank into Interval International for an exchange later on. With the small side of my lockoff unit, I get amazing exchanges through II, including a 2 bedroom at Marriott's Newport Coast for the end of September.

Point systems are great. You said Myrtle Beach, so Wyndham and WorldMark both have resorts in Myrtle Beach, but you also said, $0 buy-in. That takes those out (and I would RATHER own SBP myself because I cannot believe how great it's been for us, since day one). You also said 4-5 stars.
