That's when it started for us. $2500, EOY, Week 23, at an Ugly Stepsister Westate resort they kept hidden in the basement.

Boy, was I smart!!! No TUG, no Al Gore Internet needed. I had a degree in business and economics, and I knew a deal when I saw it!

So smart that a year later when we loaded up the extended fam, and headed to our vacation home with them, I went to the sales office with my brother-in-law, with some shaving cream on my face, and I bought the other half, still $2500, that guaranteed in my original purchase agreement.

My BIL told me about the shaving cream after-the-fact. He likes to do stuff like that.

With inflation and all, like they said, think what that would be worth today!

I forgot to mention that we bought on Thursday, and they let us move from the Motel 6 to their little resort our last two nights.

The Motel 6 is still there.

So was Motel 6 still charging $6 per night back then?

If it was, and I spent $2500 on a promise of future lodging one week every other year, I would have been in serious trouble.

But, did I mention, Motel 6 is still there.

I don't remember how many times I stayed in Motel 6s but it was a lot and I saved a lot of money over the years. I figured all I needed was a place to sleep and take a shower. Some of the newer ones were better than just decent; some of the older ones were pretty bad. I always propped a chair under the door knob and slept with my trusty 38 Detective Special right next to my head. Never once had a problem...

& it was 20 years ago that a person at RCI told me, "We have a legal department for people like you." :D

We both got past that.

Actually, it started on Monday of that week, here:

https://www.google.com/maps/@28.332...4!1sAlAhWWpHjAsqbyHMcqxPhA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

except that the "Tourist Information" booth is not out front any more.

Our first tour was OLCC, when it was just the Golf Villas in what is now the West Village, and our second tour was at Wastegate, when it was just a clubhouse, Bldg. A, a marketing tent, and a lot of mud. It was in that tent, during the exit interview, that they set the hook. If the guy wasn't from Iowa, I would not have fallen for it.

I remember his words, "Other than money, is there any reason you wouldn't want to do this?"

Well, no, if it was free.
