I have a Hawaiian Marriott (1 bd.) which I would like to trade for a Grand Luxxe in Riviera Maya. How are my chances? And would the Grand Bliss be comparable or a step down? Thank you for any insight you can give me.

Do you mean exchange for one trip, or more permanently? If it’s just one exchange, you have pretty good chances. Depends on what type of room you want and what season, of course.

Grand Bliss is nice, but a step lower than Grand Luxxe. It’s also not as well situated on the resort.

You can get in there on an exchange through II, SFX, Third Home or Elite Alliance. Best bet is trying to find an owner that is willing to exchange directly, though, as Vidanta makes some areas available only to owners, not exchangers, in Riviera Maya.

What Marriott is it you have?

If the owner exchange doesn't work out, you should have no problem exchanging into GL. I've used a 1BR Premier (Vacation Village) unit in the past.

If I recall, you did that through II, and could get into the loft & residence units. Vidanta has been shifting inventory around a bit, so I’m not really sure what they have in II. Through SFX, OP could get the regular Grand Luxxe suite units ($75 resort fee per week) and through Third Home just about any of the Grand Luxxe units ($42 resort fee per day - $294 per week). Exchange fees will vary. I’m not sure what the fees are for II now.

Yes, it was II.

I just did a search for the next 2 years using my 2BR VV unit. Plenty of inventory (Studio, 1BR, and 2BR). I did it on my phone and did a cursory look so there could be other units. I don't know when the deposits happened, so there could have been larger units; I've seen 3BR and 4BR units in the past.

I saw the Grand Luxxe Riviera Maya and Nuevo Vallarta 4 BR residences as well as the 2 and 3 BR lofts on Elite Alliance for just a $69 per week resort exchange fee. See below. They only require 20 to 40 EA points, in low season, which is a great deal, IMO. I am depositing a 1BR FSA holiday week in EA. I will get 105 points in year 1 due to the 50% bonus in year 1. After year 1, a holiday 1BR at FSA earns 70 points. So I think this would be a good exchange. The MF for my full 2 BR is about $2600-$2700. I am getting 105 points for the 1 BR side and I would estimate that value at approx $1700 or $16.19 per EA point. So if we use this as a valuation for my 1 BR at FSA, then the 2 BR loft is $324+$69 for a non peak week $486+$69 for a 3BR loft non peak and $. +648+$69 for a 4BR residence. And I would still have 85 EA points available to trade plus I also have my studio to use, to trade up in II to a 1 br, or to rent out. Or I could do a peak week for between $810 and $1133 + $69. This seems like one of the best ways to trade into a prime unit (2/3BR loft or 4 BR residence) at Grand Luxxe. We are just 2 adults but I could see "splurging" on an EA exchange in a 4BR residence in peak or non-peak season. Or I would be perfectly happy in a 2 BR loft as well. I gave not been to GL RV and I did not realize they have the 4 BR residence floor plan. In NV, that floor plan is amazing.

Don’t forget the exchange fee. Also, you could always invite friendly tuggers when you get the 4 BR one....

I have never heard of the Elite Alliance until your post. The fees do look like very "elite", but I think it's worth the price for 3BR/4BR units. How are the availability during the peak time?

Also I did a random check on one of their properties in Niseko Japan (The Hideaways Club, Kitsutsuki) and it does not even show up on google map....:ponder::ponder::ponder:

Right, there should be an EA exchange fee of $395 - $895 depending on various factors. I would not know the fee until I was ready to exchange. It still seems reasonable to get access to the stellar inventory. Vidanta values the nightly rate at these units to be $10,000+ per night. Not sure anyone ever paid that though! My DH and I would be very happy in a 2BR Loft unit in non peak season. We would never need to go to the 2nd floor so it would be a one level condo with high ceilings. Maybe one day I would splurge on the 4BR but probably in NV for the views.

I have not yet exchanged through EA. The Vidanta resort fees are low compared to resort and housekeeping fees for the Hideaways and others. I think inventory is tight for the most desirable units. The do have some last minute getaways for purchase or exchange. I only see one right now for a reduced number of points for GL NV in July. The process with EA is you have to make requests and get matched. That is the best way to get hard to book inventory, from what I have been told.

In RM there are only 6 4 BR units on the ground floor of tower 4. Same number of 2&3 BR Lofts. That’s why you won’t see as much inventory there especially in the high season.

My 1 bedroom Marriott Kauai Beach Club (for which I pay over $1800. maintenance)is deposited with Interval. I would like to trade it for a 2-bedroom Grand Luxxe and wanted to know if this is feasible.

Think you should be able to get a 2 BR GL RM through II. I might be interested in doing a direct exchange with you some time in the future for either Grand Luxxe Riviera Maya or Nuevo Vallarta if you're interested. I like Kauai, but haven't stayed at the Marriott there yet. If you're interested, let me know; My vacations are pretty much booked up through 2020 right now though. If you don't have luck w/II, I might be able to hook you up depending on the time of year in exchange for a future one. This would get you out of the exchange fee and the resort fee as well as get you some of my bennies with Vidanta.

Thanks!

I would probably go in June or July during low season to increase the odds of getting a good unit. I love May in Mexico but that is still high season on EA.

Completely agreed with you. direct exchange without extra fee with the owner benefits intact. However I checked the forum and there is not a lot going on. Why is that?

Buy an Interval International Getaway for Vidanta and save your Marriott for something else.

That would be a great way to go, too, especially in the off season.

That won't likely work for Grand Luxxe as I don't think that shows up very often, if at all, in getaway.

You should easily be able to exchange your MVCI property into the GL through II. We did it 5 times but I stopped since they will no longer let exchangers use many of the GL amenities. My Marriott timeshares are as nice or nicer than the GL. I just looked on II there is a lot of availability.

I'm a Marriott owner and traded a 2 bedroom Orlando property for a 2 bedroom Grand Luxxe in Nuevo Vallarta - I'm going next week - what are the amenities that we aren't entitled to? Thanks.

If you are a member of SFX Diamond level, your 1-bedroom will get you a 2-bedroom. The exchange fees for GL are higher than at Grand Bliss, but not nearly as high as II and RCI.

I'm a Marriott owner and traded a 2 bedroom Orlando property for a 2 bedroom Grand Luxxe in Nuevo Vallarta - I'm going next week - what are the amenities that we aren't entitled to? Thanks.

In Nuevo Vallarta, Vidanta doesn’t restrict exchangers access to amenities as they do in RM. Depending on where you’re staying you may not have access to a few things (e.g., the rooftop pool for tower 5). That’s the same treatment as owners get there, though.

You are at the top of the food chain. You would have no trouble. However, I second the post above that says you should save your Marriott for another high-end, tough to get Marriott and use another method to get Grand Luxxe. It does not take great power to get either of the Grand Luxxe resorts.
I just posted the current 2br inventory in Sightings. I'll post again when there is another bulk deposit.
