on a bluegreen forum people are saying rci called them to sell them timeshares. Others say that I am incorrect, rci does sell timeshares and calls them Rcipoints and it is not resorts selling rci points but rci itself. Has something changed or are these companies spoofing the rci name.

This is part of what I have been seeing from these dinner scams. One was a repackaging of an old timeshare under a new name, but the other was insisting that they were getting the points "directly" from RCI. When I asked about 4 in 1 or 3 in 1 rules I was told that "those don't apply". Yeah, sure!

You aren't wrong. RCI is an exchange company only and doesn't sell timeshares. This is some type of vacation club and not worth what it costs. A person would be better off to get a cheap or free every other year 49,000 point week at Grandview Las Vegas.

Where do the "Clubs" get access to the points?

I've wondered if they are timeshare resellers who transfer all the points associated with the deeds they are holding to one main account that they use. When we attended one of these presentations we actually got the salesperson to show us their website and we got to see what was available. What I saw wasn't impressive. Pretty much the last call weeks and the extra weeks.

If a person were to get a 49,000 point week or every other year week at say Grandview Las Vegas or the equivalent at Vacation Village at Parkway they would be better off. Even with the maintenance fees, the exchange fees and the RCI membership fees they would be spending less money than what I've seen these vacation clubs charging to join.

That was kind of my impression too. I usually ask about what protects the buyer IF the club goes bankrupt and the usual reply is BUT this is RCI

I thought that maybe some of these travel clubs in their presentations would reply to that question with something along the lines of "We've been in business for over twenty years with thousands of satisfied customers. We're not going anywhere."

I have had two calls in the last two days. Started with have you gotten information about your owners meeting. There have been changes in rci and II and they are having a meeting to explain them.

We've gotten those also but not recently. If it was true that there are any changes I would have gotten an email announcing them and could find out about them on the website.

The long and short of it is this: RCI does exchanges only.
They do not sell points, TS's, or own or manage "clubs."
I know someone who bought one of these memberships.
All she gets are 2nd tier, low-rate resorts and isn't happy.
