Hello - we have a 2 bedroom Lockout unit that sleeps 10 at HICV Cape Canaveral, Florida. We don't plan on going down this year but did reserve the week of Feb 9-16 for some friends, but they now have changed their plans and no longer want the unit. I thought this might be a desirable week for someone to rent so before I turn it back, I am looking for an easy way to see if I can rent this. I have rented Timeshares from other people in the past, but never been the "owner". I've read the stickies, but a lot of the information appears a decade old, so not sure if I'm getting the most up to date advice on how to's?! Also wondering if the rental section on TUG is active and maybe this is the best place to post the rental? Also wondering what is most common way for the monetary transfer (I'm in Canada, but would be renting in USD). Any advice welcomed! Thanks!

TUG is going to be the most cost effective way of placing an ad.

As far as the dance of the exchange of funds, others will have to address that issue.

I would strongly suggest that you explore a rental contract which is enforcable in both countries. Stick to the terms spelled out in the contract, this includes the exchange of funds and transfer of the vacation week.

I have not done this, so keep in mind this is just WAG (Wild A** Guessing)

A good advantage for YOU and your USA renter, is to request payment in US Postal Money Orders.

WHY? You can cash them without a fee at ANY USPS with your photo id. And you can request your client to obtain them in a certain amount (say $400 or $250) to enable you to hold onto them until you need those funds for a USA stay.

Photocopy them when you receive them .... and keep these in a SAFE and separate place.

Hello,

When I rent my points, I request payment from PayPal (which is linked to a CDN$ and US$ account). I can then decide if I want to transfer the funds to my US$ account (where I pay my maintenance fees from) or convert to CDN$ and transfer to that account. PP offers a "slightly better than bank" exchange rate, in my experience.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Except as a renter, I am going to see someone asking for payment as a money order that I send to Canada as a giant red flag and will move on to another person renting. Generally I just add in the cost of the paypal fees to the rental price. Repeat rentals I will offer a discount with payment by check.
