II - Favorite non rated resort

Another post made reference to non rated resorts so it made me think about the resorts I love that have no rating. So below I will list my favorites that I have been to within the last two years (want to keep this more current) that I feel should have a rating. Do you have any?


The Banyan Resort
Key West, Florida
BYT
Tropical setting with Banyan Trees with two outdoor pools, one adults only. In the heart of Old Key West. Historical buildings, units updated


Gulf Tides of Longboat Key
Longboat Key, Florida
GTL
Most of the two bedrooms are across the street from the beach but amenities are on this side. All studios and one bedrooms are beach side, units updated. Nice quiet area.


Sunrise Bay Resort and Club
Marco Island, Florida
SBM
On Marco Islands Bay side. All units are one bedroom with two baths. All units are waterfront. At the end of the pier is a deck with chairs and lounges covered and not covered where you can see dolphins.

Thanks for sharing. This is helpful because I find it hard to select a resort I don't know if there is no rating. Why are resorts non-rated?

Could you provide a star rating compared to other TS properties (including hotel branded)?

This is what I have been told by management at two different non rated resorts, “ we do not provide enough units to get a rating”. I have no way to know if this is the case.

What I have found was common among non rated resorts that I believe should have a rating...
They are smaller, usually under 40 units
Amenities are limited to outdoor pools and jacuzzi
There are no resort sponsored activities
They are in higher demand areas but are not part of a chain


It is hard to provide a star rating compared to brand name resorts as brand name resorts usually have more amenities and activities. It is like comparing apples to orange. None of the ones I listed are glitzy, but they are all nicely kept, in great areas that most traders would be extremely happy with if they aren’t looking for an amenity resort.

Sometimes it's things like not having an onsite 24 hr check in. Resorts that have multiple floors and no elevators are less likely to be rated. Not having an indoor and outdoor pool if other resorts in the area have them. Rated resorts usually have at least some (if not all) units with updated kitchen and bathrooms. Being a chain and having a restaurant onsite gives a bump in the ratings.

Smaller independent resorts are at a disadvantage in becoming rating.

We own at Kingsbury Crossing in Tahoe. Very well managed resort, kept updated. It is a gold crown resort in RCI. I use Interval and it is not rated. I was told that is because II does not receive enough evaluations on it??? Anyway, it is a boutique resort and does not have a restaurant and kitchens do not have ovens but there are cooktops and dishwashers.

We have been to Oceanique in Cocoa Beach and loved it. It is unrated. All 2 bedroom spacious if a bit dated condos.

Not enough evaluations seems to be the reason for better non rated resorts not getting a rating. Too bad as they don’t stand out unless you research reviews and websites to figure out its a good one.

Thanks for sharing I was once told at a HOA meeting that a resort had to have 50 units: unit amenities A/C, dishwasher, a full kitchen, a microwave, washer/dryer, whirl/hot tub and x's number of onsite amenities (examples: pool outside & inside, a children playground, tennis & basketball courts, exercise room, and a game room just to name a few amenities to be a Gold Crown or a Five (5) Star Resort. Plus the surrounding area should have for example: golf, restaurants, amusement parks, boating, fishing, beach, lake, horseback riding, wi-fi access and a grocery nearby.
