Is SMTN a reputable company to sell your timeshare for you?

They have contacted me several times wanting to list my timeshare for week 22 at Westgate Vacation Villas. Do they attract more buyers than you would listing only on Tug and EBay?

They charge high listing fees and will really not do anything to promote or sell your timeshare other than list it on their website. Unfortunately, your timeshare really has $0 value. Westgate is not well thought of around these parts and they don't treat resale buyers very well. You could try giving it away in the Bargain Deals forum, but it may require you to prepay for a years usage in MFs and pay all closing costs.

Don't believe SMTN when they say your timeshare is worth thousands of dollars. It simply isn't true.

No - they are an upfront fee company. They charge you a high listing fee, put your week up on their over-priced website, and forget about you. Look at it this way: If they collect their fee from you upfront, why should they care if they actually sell it or not?

Unfortunately, Westgate is a difficult timeshare to unload, and to be quite honest with you, you will be lucky to give it away.

They will tell you that your timeshare is worth thousands of dollars, probably by pointing out that they have other like timeshares listed for thousands of dollars on their website. After all, if they told you the truth that your Westgate timeshare was worthless they know you won’t pay them hundreds of dollars to list it on their (poorly designed and over priced) website. All those over priced timeshares will never sell but SMTN could care less because they have already been paid.

If they tell you your timeshare is worth $10,000 tell them that in lieu of their upfront fee that they can take $9,000 commission out of the $10,000 sale price and see how many excuses they come up with as to why they can’t do that.

You have received great advice here but I have a couple of questions just out of curiosity.

1) How much are they charging you to list on their website?
2) How much are they telling you you can fetch for the sale of your timeshare?

you could likely take half what you were considering paying them and simply pay westgates deedback fee to give it back to them.
